Get well soon, Sen. Jones

Posted in:

From the Tribune.

Senate President Emil Jones Jr. underwent an angioplasty procedure this morning to clear a minor blockage in an artery to his heart, according to a spokeswoman for the Chicago Democrat.

Jones, 70, was mildly sedated but remained conscious as a stent was inserted in his right coronary artery at the University of Chicago Hospitals, said Jones spokeswoman Cindy Davidsmeyer. The artery is fully functioning, she said.

Jones was admitted to the hospital for tests Monday after he felt some tightness in his chest while doing a regular workout in his Chicago home, Davidsmeyer said.

He is expected to make a full recovery and to be at his post when the Senate resumes legislative business on Jan. 11, the spokeswoman said.

  2. I wish Emil the best, but this of course brings up the question of who would replace Emil as Senate President if future health problems prevent him from holding his post.

  3. Anon 5:40 -

Whoever the oligarchy deems next in succession. We wouldn’t want a shift in the balance of power…everyone is winning right now!

  4. Emil is still kicking pretty hard, so the drift of these comments should end please. Kinda tasteless.

  5. Well, he IS 70 after all, so it is not at all inappropriate to discuss succession. Remember how the repubs fell apart afer Pate left, they didn’t have their act together and they hadn’t trusted anybody enough to have developed a deep bench for the team.

  6. Sorry, Rich but everybody’s gotta go sometime and what not talk about who’s one first if Emil quits? There quit a group there in the senate.

  7. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Senator Jones.

And to those vultures who are already thinking of succession . . . . geeez, get a life! The fact that someone is a senior citizen should not prevent anyone from holding office or positions of authority!

  8. It ponders a good question of the day:

Who will be the next legislative leader to either retire or “get retired” by their caucus?

  9. Don’t answer if you think that this is prying too much into someone’s personal business, but how old is President Jones’s newly-wed wife?

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Jan 4, 06 @ 12:40 pm

  10. 12:40pm - That’s wrong on so many levels. Let’s just pretend you never asked the question.

Comment by Anon Wednesday, Jan 4, 06 @ 2:50 pm

  11. I wish him good health.
