Adventures in amateur politicking

Posted in:

* I had never heard of 11th Congressional District Republican candidate Henry Meers until this morning. It turns out, he has a staff, including a pretty well-known “senior strategy advisor.”

What brought him to my attention was when a friend Tweeted about a Meers campaign video. You absolutely must watch the first few seconds of this video.

The dude really, truly needs to get an editor…

Classic.

He also apparently thinks he’s running against Barney Frank.

OK, I have sufficiently diverted myself from the important issues of the day.

Back to work I go.

  1. The rolling eyes and cursing at the start are epic.

  3. I just wonder how long this will stay on YouTube now.

  9. What I can’t tell is whether the start was for real, or intended as some kind of tongue-in-cheek joke to show that he’s a regular person and not some slick politician?

  10. If it’s a joke, he’s a heckuva performer.

  11. Did Halvorson and Franks switch districts?

That’s a weird backdrop for a video too; I’m waiting for a Bob Saget voice-over and an surprise attack from a toddler with a wiffleball bat.

I didn’t listen to the whole thing, but it could be effective from a “regular guy” perspective. If they’re serious, can keep it going, and the guy’s good, it would have some appeal that could help.

  19. But wait, there is another version and his Mother has sent it to Rich and asked him to post it as his Friday video! Not as funny as this one (and no cussing) but you can never beat the original! So all you campers must wait for Rich to post the Second Best Mirror video FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

  21. While this *could* have been an attempt to be what they call “meta” or “arch” by using a really amateur-looking approach, I’m going to go with a couple of incompetents who should have at least bought one of those “youtube for dummies” books. Crummy off-the-built-in-camera-mic audio, bad choice of background, no lighting, and no quality control… what is this, one of Rich’s videos?:-) I kid, Rich, at least your vids have some content.

  24. […] 1) We don’t really wish to support candidates who have videos posted online of them yelling at their spouses. That’s exactly what happened here, and even more strange is that the video in question was actually posted by the Meers campaign. As Rich Miller points out, they really should learn to edit videos before sending them out. […]
