Watch for State Rep. Susana Mendoza and Ald. Ed Burke to target the latest physical assault weapon: Sulfuric acid.
• Burke’s law: Ald. Burke, who helped ban the sale of spray paint cans in Chicago — which had been used for graffiti desecrating city buildings — plans to introduce a city ordinance restricting and/or banning the sale of sulfuric acid. “I can’t think of any good reason why these chemicals should be readily available for purchase,” he told Sneed. “Clearly it’s as dangerous as knives and guns.”
• Mendoza’s message: Watch for Mendoza (D-Chicago), who is running for city clerk, to introduce legislation creating a “separate enhanced penalty” for using acid as a weapon and restricting its access. “It’s easy to buy . . . and victims of this crime feel they are living death in life,” she told Sneed. “They feel their disfigurement will discriminate against them in the workplace; specifically in upfront jobs. By the way, I just met acid victim Esperanza Medina, who is a magnificent person with a great attitude.”
• Sneed’s query: So would Mendoza hire Medina in an upfront job if she becomes city clerk? “Absolutely,” she said. “Just watch me.”

Until Brady releases a plan…represents who he is and what he really stands for…I am not voting for him… If I am going vote for a loser… It’s going to be the one I know best. As far as the ad goes…. Yes PQ needs help… But The ad focused on at least one of his positive accomplishments. The entire voting population of Illinois screams everyday about the lack of real choices in terms of the election…. Sad.

With all of the hits on the income tax increase proposal PQ’s taken–to be a straightshooter about the $13 billion deficit issue–instead of doin’ the BB 10% Disappearing Destroy State Services Dance (without words/sweet-soundin’ music only, of course) to actually display the real leadership and honesty to help get us out of this mess, hate him/it or not, people know what real courage is. Also, the ads are most definitely effective–especially the positive one–a huge number of “undecided” blacks and other of color are still smitten with the President (with plenty of those voters downstate, too) and Daley’s public backing will also bring out thousands of the loyal Dem. vote. Match undetermined but this Set definitely goes to Quinn.

Not a Mendoza fan, we disagree on some public safety issues where I feel she’s overreached in pushing false “security” over civil rights, but that’s another discussion.
Seriously, acid throwing needs a specific law, it’s that prevalent? Isn’t it already aggravated assault or something?
Sounds like a stunt issue for a quick PR bump, but that’s about all. Could we maybe spend more time on, you know, a budget?

As far as the campaign ads, the jobs one is Quinn’s strongest positive to battle Brady’s negative ads. I think The Brady negative ads should re-visit Brady’s weirdnesses: the pro-creationist stance, the voting for bills that served his own interests, the way he shills for walmart and against unions and minimum wage. Secretly, everybody admires a guy that can skate the IRS a little, but in hard times, a guy that wants to lower your pay, reduce your benefits, and weaken your union representation, all while using the system to feather his own nest… well, that’s a good negative ad, IMO.
I’m of a mind that people who research their election choices at all will tend to hold their nose and vote for Quinn rather than go to Brady, because we all know we have to pass a tax increase of some type, like it or not, and Brady is a liar about balancing the budget and raising taxes. He’s already got Edgar laying the groundwork for the “big surprise” after the election.
Now, the people that do NOT research their candidate choices at all, that only go by TV and radio ads, they really DO want to be lied to. Promise them they will get everything they want and not pay a penny more to get it, and they will rationalize their way into believing it can somehow happen. And be amazed and really mad after the election when it turns out: “Hey! That guy LIED to me!”
I think on a macro scale that’s what we’ll see nationwide in November: the Dems look weak now, but on election day I think a lot of people are going to give them another 4 years to try to move ahead on this, since they can still remember the previous eight and the republicans and conservative loudmouths are preaching that that’s what they want to return to.
I think a real Republican strategy would be to look forward, not back; to figure out new priorities and policies instead of fighting to reverse the country’s course yet again. I think others are like me: tired of gridlock and a ship of state that just keeps sailing in a lazy circle with the election cycles and never seeing land.

The original talking here: I think Mendoza would make a great candidate. And what is wrong with supporting Schock. IT only shows she,s capeable supporting the candidate not the party.

Well said Gregor. Bill Brady will either raise taxes or slash core state services beyond recognition. Anything else he suggests is a bad lie.
