The taxpayers may have to pick up the tab for a lawsuit over an unconstitutional bill.
The Entertainment Software Association is petitioning the United States District Court, requesting it to order the State of Illinois to reimburse the ESA for $644,545 in legal fees for the state’s unsuccessful attempt to pass an anti-game law.
ESA president Doug Lowenstein (pictured) said that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich knew from the beginning that his proposed legislation wouldn’t hold water, but the governor pursued a games ban nonetheless.“From the day Governor Blagojevich announced that he would seek anti-video game legislation, it was clear to everyone that the proposal would be found unconstitutional and would waste taxpayers dollars in a protracted legal fight that would leave parents no better off,” he said.

This is the tip of the iceberg for the legal fees of this governor. When several of his programs draw the heat this will occur time and time again. Not to mention, the wrongful termination suits which cannot be calculated at this point.
The best part is, even though you can clearly calculate the 13 billion in debt he has put on our state in the past 3 years, the legal costs and future settlement costs are not even included. This bill, termination suits, and even underfunding the AG’s budget will haunt us in the future. The big problem is the AG should warn us of these problems but since her daddy just told her to not make too much noise until her turn to be governor she will not blow the whistle. Whoever the Republican for AG his has to put these issues to her. If she is going to play daddys politics a records of her gross incompentence needs to be made.

The Governor more or less admitted that he knew it was unconstitutional while it was pending. He thought it would good press anyway (oops I mean “a stand on principal”)
And if it costs that group $644,545 that is a pitty. Now if they had donated $100,000 or hired Wyma & Scofield while the bill was pending…..

Good for them! They should sue to get their legal fees back it was a waste of time and money. In fact, they should have included their fees in the lawsuit after the court ruled in their favor. However, I’m sure they know what they are doing and they are going to prevail.
Right is Right and wrong is wrong! When you cause others an injustice, it is destined to come back. I call it “divine justice” some know it as carma or “what goes around comes around”. There is no escaping it.
There is more to follow! Others will be taking the same or similiar approaches to obtain “divine justice” from this administration.

Can we barter some valuable state advertising? How about “Lake Shore Drive presented by Grand Theft Auto”?

Let’s see - blogo skipped out on paying for the flu vaccine, lost an other court case - how many so far? I wonder just how much it has cost the state in lawyers fees - including those on the payroll, to lose all those cases.
