  1. Ok,

“Vrdolyak Special” for Sandi, Year and a day …

40 Months for JJJ, with special consideration for mental health…

  2. The whole thing is just incredibly sad, but that doesn’t mean either of them should walk.

  3. It’s a very sad story, but sentencing judges frequently hear the effects on the kids when the parents commit crimes and get caught. Judges get more jaded about those arguments than the public.

  4. 2.5 years is bunk! He should have received 60 months, not 30.

Comment by Knome Sane Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 11:52 am

  5. 30 months is better than what I thought …

But who would want to do 25 months or so in a Federal Prision? (85% rule)

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 11:53 am

  6. Are Illinois pols the cause of prison overcrowding?

Comment by Cincinnatus Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:01 pm

  7. No way he was going to get five years. If you give the max sentence to people who plead guilty, there’s no incentive to plead guilty.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:03 pm

  8. Did Sandi get the “day” … year and a day?

Sandi would qualify for early release (85%) with the “day” added.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:15 pm

  9. Sandy didn’t get the ‘day”

Comment by Former State Employee 2 Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:17 pm

  10. YIKES!!

Not only does Sandi NOT get the “Vrdolyak Special”, Sandi has to do the YEAR….

    Wow …

  12. OW,

No year and a day. WOW! She really sent Sandi a message; no mercy. I thought she would get probation.

Comment by Wensicia Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:20 pm

  13. 12 months for Sandi is mercy. So is 30 for junior.

Comment by Bill Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:22 pm

  14. Sad day for the Jacksons’ children.

Comment by Steve Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:22 pm

  15. people without the clout would not get staggered sentences so trips gets to walk around for a year while sandi serves her time? don’t you love the fairness of it all (snark)

Comment by wizard Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:23 pm

  16. Natasha,

We all owe ya Cannoli, well done, and thanks Rich, per usual, for having this available.

    Thank you!

    To - Wensicia -,

Agreed, a message. In some ways, Sandi got it worse, making sure no probation, but making it a year.

Perspective - this is the longest you can serve, and still get no probation. Speaks volumes.

  17. They made their bed now they have to lay in it

Comment by foster brooks Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:34 pm

  18. So for clarity….how much will jesse actually have to serve?

Comment by anon Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:38 pm

  19. Jesse will probably do 20-25 months inside, with likely some form of halfway house/parole for the rest.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:39 pm

  20. As you can see, we are hanging on every tweet. Thanks Natasha. You are doing a great job.

Comment by anon Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:40 pm

  21. They deserved what they got, but I still feel for them. I hope prison turns out to be a learning experience for the both of them.

    Comment by Chavez-respecting Obamist Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 12:40 pm

  22. Sandi needs to serve first. She should be out in time to run for her old seat in the 7th ward

Comment by Hank Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 1:10 pm

  23. The sentences for all’em are way too light….Blago, Rya, Fast Eddie, Sandi, JJJ…

Comment by Charlatan Heston Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 1:40 pm

  24. About 10 years ago chicago magazine gave lynn sweet its best journalist in chicago award saying something like she got more done/broke more stories in dc than the tribs bureau which outnumbered her 25-1 at least. Thot the same thing about natasha today. Did a great job.

Comment by shore Wednesday, Aug 14, 13 @ 2:56 pm

  25. It is very sad that a couple with so much to offer ended up like this. No one is immune to hubris, I guess. I did think that Sandy Jackson should have offered her community service in Chicago, among the people her and her husband represented and whose campaign contributions they misappropriated, rather than in D.C. to suite her convenience.

It’s hard to overestimate how fat and lazy the Trib was 10 and 20 years ago. And arrogant, too, for a crew who, with rare exceptions, never made any noise once they left Chicago.

They don’t have that problem any more. Now they’re Sun-Times 2.0, just hoping to hold on to their jobs until the next inevitable sale comes.

  27. The court is not responsible for their actions. It is not sad they are going to prison. Rather it is sad that the children have two parents who behaved recklessly.
