DescriptionWhat do Part-time Campaign Field Associates do?
As a Part-time Campaign Field Associate (Petition Circulator) you will play in integral role in a historical movement dedicated to reforming the Illinois Constitution.
On Election Day, Part-time Campaign Field Associates will travel to their assigned precinct and gather signatures from registered voters.
You will get paid $2 per signature. If you collect 100 signatures and 70 of them are valid you will be paid $200. Historically, petition signatures on election day have high validity rates, so it shouldn’t be a challenge to meet this goal.
After the first hundred signatures, you will get paid $2 per signature with a validity rate of 60% or higher.
Arno has been hired by Bruce Rauner to run his term limit constitutional amendment petition drive.
I sure wish there’d been jobs like this back when I was in college. That’s not bad money.

Yes!
This petition helps put an amendment to the Illinois Constitution on the November 4, 2014 ballot which will make Illinois State government more responsive to citizens.
The amendment limits those elected to the state house or state senate to 8 years total. The 8 years can be served in the Illinois house or senate alone, or any combination of the two, but no longer than 8 years total.
The amendment also decreases substantially the number of state senators from 59 to 41 while increasing slightly the number of Illinois house members from 118 to 123.
The amendment makes it harder for politicians to override a governor’s veto by raising that threshold from a 3/5 majority to a 2/3 majority in both the Illinois House and Senate. This reform will ensure the best interests of all Illinoisans are protected and curtail the power of narrow, partisan or special interests.

Leave it to Rauner to be involved with a company with major problems and a shady reputation.
Arno Political Consulting has a long history of disturbing problems in multiple states (allegations of fraud, deceptive practices, illegal voter registration, falsifying paperwork, etc.)

This is similar to Rich’s point about it just being a bill.
Commenters shouldn’t get worked up as the people haven’t voted on the idea. All that is happening is someone had an idea and is paying to put that idea to a vote by the people of Illinois.
You don’t have to like the idea, but you have to respect that it will get a fair shake by the voting public.

Also, notice that the term limits in the petition apply only to legislators and (surprise, surprise!) NOT to the governor or other executive branch officials — who, since they exercise the greatest power as individuals, are the ones who (IMO) really need term limits.

I too wish this opportunity was available to me when I was a student. With challenges to every petition nowadays, it’s probably the going rate. They paid in Dupage County the last time the issue of term limits was discussed. Inflation has had an effect though. I believe some Townships paid up to .80 per signature w/o the validity clause. Others paid less. Some paid nothing. Guess who got the most. Uh huh.

Typically the going rate is $1 a signature with the promise of bonuses based on number of valid signatures after challenges.

Rauner is a hypocrite and disingenuous about term limits. His term limit plan doesn’t included the governors office and in fact makes the governors position stronger. So good enough for everyone else but not Rauner.

“Pass” the courts? Or “pass” at the ballot box?
Polling covered here and elsewhere makes it clear that this idea enjoys widespread support among voters of all persuasions.

FKA, I understand. It was a reaction to Roosevelt’s four elections. You know, the ones where the people voted for him.
But it should be noted that Ike, Reagan and Clinton likely would have been elected to third terms. Reagan was not shy about his disdain for the 22nd Amendment.

Voters can’t impose term limits on other elected officials by referendum. They would have to call a Constitutional Convention to do so.

Yes you’re right about the Constitution but that doesn’t allow him to be disingenuous about it, nor should we allow it. I bet if you polled people many of them would believe that he is referring to the Governor’s Office as well.

The Constitution of the United States also used to say that the production, sale, and transport was illegal. Point being that we can change our mind about whether or not parts of the Constitution were good ideas.

Passing a petition supporting one of Rauner’s key campaign points, outside election sites, on election day.
Great way to influence voters as they walk in to vote, without being blatant and offensive about it.
I might be naïve, but I’ve never seen this specific tactic before.

Walker, this has been used often by Muni officials who needed to gather petitions. One thing you know for sure is that every person walking out of there is indeed a registered voter. More often than not, they tried to snag the signature on the way out vs. on the way in. It’s a great way to get a data base that is better than “likely voters”.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it once again. Why even have elections if you want term limits? We all get on a list like we do for jury duty and when our number is called we serve. People that favor term limits should like this idea. They apparently don’t like the electoral process. So, let’s just get rid of it.

Thanks. Mr. Rauner. Albeit that this is an unconventional approach, I am inclined to believe that the end justifies the means. Probably 70% of Illinois voters are in agreement with term limits, yet “nobody” down in Springfield attempts to “git er done”.
Rauner is a no nonsense type of guy that believes in “results” and “accomplishing goals”. This is my kind of guy. More importantly, this is the kind of guy who will save Illinois from being sucked into the quicksand quagmire that incumbent politicians have created.
“Git er done, Bruce”. And, thanks for picking up the tab that the rest of us can not afford to pay to save Illinois. You will go down in the history books of Illinois as “The Man”.

While a Constitution can be changed, it must be changed via the procedure laid out. The point is the only change allowed via voter referendum is the makeup of the General Assembly. If you want to modify any other part of the IL Constitution via CITIZEN action, it has to be via a properly requested Constitutional Convention and then presented to the voters. The only alternative is for the GA to pass a proposed change with the proper super-majority and then present it to the voters.
Like it or lump it, the 1970 Constitution stacked the deck against an individual citizen’s attempt to effect constitutional changes.

Would it make sense if one of Rauner’s opponents ran a campaign ad pointing out this deception? Clearly Rauner’s ads are implying that he will enact term limits if elected. A lot of voters would vote for him for this very reason and if Rauner wins they would then find out that he hoodwinked them.

…Just yet additional proof about how BR is trying to buy his Nomination, and, he hopes, the Governor’s Seat, and will stop at NO Co$t to do just that! He can’t get the signatures legitimately, so, hell, I’ll pay people OFF to do it instead, and what will the Voters know or care…?!
Memo to Bruce: We know now, we care, and we are not impressed–in fact, this is a real turn-off that makes me most definitely think less of you.
