Question of the day

Posted in:

* From a Doug Truax e-mail entitled “Greetings from Florida”…

No, I am not in Florida.

But you know who is? My Republican primary opponent: Jim Oberweis.

While Oberweis is vacationing in the sun; I am criscrossing Illinois talking with voters about the importance of this election and the issues at hand.

If elected I will always put Illinois families first. You won’t have to worry about whether your Senator is busy vacationing in a different state or even VOTING in a different state (you can’t even make this up - Jim Oberweis’ wife is registered to vote in Florida NOT Illinois).

  7. “Hey Doug,

The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful!

Seriously, I heard it snowed again last night. Why does anyone stay there in winter when they could have a million dollar condo in Bonita?

Anyway, a Cuba Libre is calling my name. Be a pal and go out to Sugar Grove and shovel my driveway, will ya? There’s a gallon of 2% in it for you!

    Bad luck on Tuesday,

    Jim”

  9. Oberweis knows in his heart of hearts he ain’t got a chance in November so why worry about the primary, which he has in the bag? He’s like a dog chasing after a car. Wouldn’t know what to do if he caught it. His record as a legislator is proof of that.

Since his wife is registered in Florida, he can’t actually lose any votes.

  18. Oberweis! A Minstrel Show Song!

Way down upon de Swanee Ribber,
    Far, far away,
Dere’s wha my fortune is turning ebber,
Dere’s wha de old voters say.
All up and down de whole Illinoyz
    Sadly I don’t roam,
But still longing for a public office,
That I kin call my own!

Politically I am sad and dreary,
    Eb-rytime I campaign;
Oh, voters, how my heart grows weary,
Far from de old snows at home!

All round de dairy farm I wandered
    When I was young,
Den many happy days I was a-squeezin’,
All da udders that was hung.
When I was playing wid my money
    Happy was I;
Oh, help me voters to discover
How to all the manure I spy.

One little condo among de beaches,
    One dat I love
Still sadly to my memory breaches,
    When in Illinois I drove.
When will I see de thongs a-rubbin’
    All round de pool?
When will I see my funders a-grubbin’,
    Better than any home-school?

  22. Great work and quick response by Truax.

Whomever wins the Republican nomination needs to send similar postcards like this regarding Vallas.

“Greetings from Connecticut”, complete with pictures of their seaside and other tourist attractions, lol

Comment by Formerly Known As... Wednesday, Mar 12, 14 @ 2:31 pm

  23. Hmmm, I just checked his website and he’s still got events listed for this week… That means he must’ve missed Monday night’s Downers Grove Republican Organization Monthly Meeting; and then last night was the Lake County Republican Federation’s 52nd Annual Spring Gala, which apparently he skipped; This morning he had the Rock Island County Republicans Breakfast Club… I just hope he’s back in time for Friday’s Catholic Citizens of Illinois Lunch at the Union League Club, not to mention Saturday’s Hamilton County Lincoln Day Dinner in McLeansboro and Sunday’s Hancock County Lincoln Day Dinner in Nauvoo (who knew that different counties apparently hold ‘Lincoln Day’ on different days?).

I sure hope his aides called in and let them all know he wouldn’t be attending… I guess his social media director is on vacation too though since his website isn’t updated…

Comment by Titus Lucretius Carus Wednesday, Mar 12, 14 @ 2:34 pm

  24. Republicans deserve Oberweis if they don’t take advantage of the opportunity to vote for someone else - anyone else! That Truax is a good candidate is gravy.

  25. “Chicago, Sugar Grove ooo I wanna leave you
Westchester, Glen Carbon, I just haveta leave ya
Cook County, Monteno, voters I had to go
    Florida…”

    Loves the Florida Sun
    There’s a “guy” called Oberweis
That’s where he wants go to get away from it all
    Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in his hand
    He’ll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a Ro-Bo Calls
    Our “guy” Oberweis

Ooo I wanna leave you like Our Oberweis
    I’d get there fast
And then I’d take it slow
    That’s where we wanna go
    Way down with Oberweis

    Obie looks out to sea
And he’ll perfect his lil bumbling
By and by he’ll defy a little bit of sanity
    Afternoon delight
    Cocktails and laughs alright
That dreamy look in his eyes
Give him a tropical election high
    Way down with Oberweis

    Everybody knows
    A little fake like Oberweis
    Now if you wanna go
And get away from it all
    Go down with Oberweis

“Chicago, Sugar Grove ooo I wanna leave you
Westchester, Glen Carbon, I just haveta leave ya
Cook County, Monteno, voters I had to go”

Ooo I wanna take you down with Oberweis
    We’ll get there fast
And then we’ll take it slow
    That’s where we wanna go
    Way down with Oberweis

  30. Unbelievable!!! I guess spending time in Florida is worth more than the few million he’s spent running for office. Oberweis is definitely not the founder of his family company, but his actions give new credence to the old adage “from shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations.”

  41. It won’t be easy, you’ll think it strange
When I try to explain why I left
That I still need your love after all that I’ve left
    You won’t believe me
All you will see is a man you know well
Although he’s dressed up for the beach
At six and seven, “for drinks”
I had to let it happen, I had to leave
Couldn’t stay all my life in long sleeves
Looking out of the window, staying out in the sun
    So I chose ‘Vay-Cay’
    Running around trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
    I never expected it to

Don’t cry for me Primary voters
The truth is I never left you
    All through these wild days
    My mad existence
    I kept my promise
    I’ll keep my distance
And as for fortune, and as for fame
    I always invited them in
Though it known to the world they were all I desired
    They soothe my ego
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Don’t cry for me Primary voters…

Don’t cry for me Primary voters
The truth is I never left you
    All through these wild days
    My mad existence
    I kept my promise
    I’ll keep my distance
Have I said too much? There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word’s untrue

  42. W/r/t to Anonymous’ David Jolly citation;

Florida’s 13th District seat has been held by a Republican since 1983 (after being redrawn in redistricting, allowing Connie Mack to win because the old Rep was pushed out of the district)…

Anyone trying to cite yesterday’s special election win by the GOP as some sort of bellweather is, quite simply, wrong… If anything, the fact that the Dems made it a competitive race says much more than the Republican win there…
