Michelle Obama says she’s “definitely” not interested in running for office

Posted in:

* Well, at least this rumor appears to have been quashed once and for all. Michelle Obama isn’t running for US Senate, or anything else..

[ABC’s Robin Roberts] asked Mrs. Obama, “There are many people that are wondering what’s your next act? Will it be political?”

To that Mrs. Obama replied, “Me?”

Roberts said, “Yes, you.”

Laughing Mrs. Obama said, “No, it will not be political.”

“No?” said Roberts.

Offering some rare information about what’s next, Mrs. Obama added, “Yes, no, it definitely will not be. It will be mission-based, it will be service-focused.”

  1. This leaves only one hope:

    Frerichs for Senate in 2016.

If only for our own amusement purposes.

  2. So…does that clear the deck for the Rahmfather to run for the Senate???

  3. LOL

While I’d love to cover it, I seriously doubt he’s statewide material.

  4. Remember when Barack Obama said he had no plans to run for president because he felt it was too soon? Then he let everyone “push” for him to run? Just like Eisenhower did way back when, though in Ike’s case it may have been his genuine sentiment. Point being, no one should be shocked when she gives in to the “will of the voters” and changes her mind about running.

  5. ===Remember when Barack Obama said he had no plans===

“No plans” is common political code for “I just might do it.”

“Definitely not” is, well… definitely not.

  7. Not going to happen. I’ve said it repeatedly. Now she’s said “definitely not.” This isn’t her thing, unlike Hillary. Give it a rest people.

  8. I see her as having too much sense to get into politics at this point…

  9. She’s not political. I get the impression she would prefer her husband to have stayed out of it as well.

  10. I’m heart broken. I was looking forward to diet and exercise advice from a health expert like Michelle. Plus, I wanted to hear about how important public education is from someone like Michelle who sends her children to private schools.

  11. Her “next act” will not be political. That leaves open possibilities for after her mission-based, service-focused projects are successful.

For the record, I doubt she’ll ever run, but there is usually some wiggle room in these types of statements.

I never got why he was Chicago material……

  13. This goes back to last week: ow was correct that Judy may be a benieficiary of Cross. Also, the fact that Anglican LaRouche names won in 86. Willy? You might be seeing your next state treasurer regardless of where he golfs on Election Day.

I’m heart broken. I was looking forward to political and public public commentary from a political expert like Steve.

  16. Hard to believe this is an answer to a serious question. Whether she could win or not, is almost beside the point. Imagine her dealing with the day to day process. Don’t see the temperament of a candidate here. Not even close.

  17. Steve please tell us what presidents sent their kids to public school. We’ll wait.

  18. I’ve said all along she wouldn’t run for the Senate in 2016. Does this mean she’s out of politics forever? Who can say, certainly not Michelle Obama.

  21. Gee Steve, I think you missed a couple of Pavlovian talking points.

What do you get for regurgitating the line? Green Stamps?

Haters gotta hate, though they don’t know why.

I can’t remember where the Michelle for office rumble came from, but I can’t believe it was ever serious.

She’s a cool cat, though. Hasn’t gone all vapid DC. She’s real, and she’s real Chicago.

  22. Powerful Woman…probably even more powerful than SHE may even realize! But I’m really not surprised by Michelle’s assertion. I’ve always felt that, overall, she’s really more of a “Stand by your Man” type in terms of HIS heretofore Political Aspirations in particular, but one with an UNdeniably strong independent streak to pursue Causes of special importance to her as well…which doesn’t always necessarily translate into an “I want to run the FREE WORLD soon, TOO” mentality…!

  24. Best news I heard all day. Was kind of looking forward to the patient dumpimg scheme articles and the articles where Quinshaunta Golden took over her job. You know, the Quinshaunta (Eric Whitaker’s Chief of Staff) who just pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and bribery charges in Federal court.

  26. I think she’ll be able to have a bigger impact on the causes she supports by starting a foundation like Bill Clinton. Really, I suppose the White House can be awfully tedious and confining at time, but once she is freed of all that, she will be able to do an enormous amount of good in the world.

Comment by Cassandra Tuesday, Jun 24, 14 @ 8:07 pm

  27. Steve’s comment about being lectured is sort of entertaining, but why do I get the impression that he wasn’t whining when Bush’s wife (the librarian) lectured people about reading, or when Nancy Reagan told people to “just say no”?

That was fine by people like Steve.

Gosh, I wonder why being lectured by those two would be OK, but he would get upset because Michelle tells him to eat right? Gee, how are they different?

  28. ==The Bush daughters graduated from Austin High School, a public high school.==

Bush’s twin daughters have attended both public and private schools, and are now seniors at Stephen F. Austin High, a public school about two miles from the Governor’s Mansion near downtown.

  30. Exactly right PC. I believe Carter sent Amy to public schools while he was in the White House to prove a point about public education, unlike some others.
