Today’s quotable

Hi Rich,

I am no longer a nonprofit executive director and I took a hiatus from Capitol Fax for my own sanity. I started reading it whenever I need an emetic.

I contacted our luminaries on behalf of my daughter who is a CPS sophomore. I politely urged them to put politics aside and provide the needed financial support for CPS. I know it probably isn’t going to happen, but I have a kid in AP US History, so I have to feign some sort of belief in our political system. I was amused by Governor Rauner’s “reply.”

I truly appreciate the Governor making decisions for me. It allows me more time to perfect my guppy fish at feeding time impression.

Anyhow, I thought you would appreciate the sentiment.

Happy birthday Oscar, whenever it is.

Emphasis added.

  1. Knowing those opinions helps me make decisions for you in Springfield.

Who would write something so patronizing?

  5. Constituent services getting a little lazy here using the generic form letter from 1970’s. I’m surprised they don’t have a more specific form letter replete with all the requisite Rauner buzzwords.

  6. Aldyth, don’t worry about that. Now that the Governor is aware of your predicament, he will make a decision for you on what words will succeed.

  8. I can’t wait to start hearing the “now that we have a budget where are the services” complaint.

Rauner will then have some explaining to do.

  9. Surprised the letter didn’t say “Hang in there, David.”

  10. “Illinois has become a dictatorship from Chicago to the taxpayer, and you can see where that’s gotten us,” said Rauner, and this is merely a continuation of that proud tradition. /s

  11. Okay so aside from all the feigned offense people are taking to this, you ARE all aware that politicians DO make decisions for you in Springfield, right?

That’s kinda the whole deal with being an elected “representative.”

Comment by Political Animal Wednesday, Nov 4, 15 @ 1:26 pm

  12. 1. Rauner has an entire office dedicated to responding to inquiries/complaints/concerns. There’s no reason this couldn’t have been a bit more personalized.

    2. Animal’s point is very valid. Reps and Senators speak for their constituents, and Rauner is the Governor. He’s elected to be the state’s chief executive and therefore makes decisions.

  13. I am an elected official (city council). I do not make decisions for my constituents. I take actions and make decisions to enable the city government to best meet the needs of the city residents.

  15. That is a better form letter reply than what I received a few years ago from a State Senator. That letter did not address what I wrote about, but thanked me for supporting them.
