It wasn’t business as usual Monday morning as hundreds showed up to march through Chicago’s Financial District for this week’s #MoralMonday protest, where demonstrators gathered to fight Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposed budget. […]

“People are taking to the streets and shutting down the Board of Trade today because we can’t cut any more services,” Buck said. “We are in crisis and that is why we are here today.”

Dude, you didn’t shut down the Board of Trade. You blocked a doorway for a few minutes.

  2. The taxing of trades has been an old favorite since Hector and I were pups. The story goes that when one of the mayors visited the Board of Trade and threatened to do it, one of the executives walked over to the wall and unplugged a phone and set it on the table.

Isn’t it just lovely when people can take an issue important to you and make us all look like amateur dopes. Thanks.

  8. Lame, kind of like the occupy folks who used to march through bank branches on LaSalle and try to shut down the LaSalle Street bridge at “rush hour”. They lack enough brain power to understand why their strategy is faulty and their stated goal(s), to the extent there are any, make no sense if one even wanted to try and explain.

  9. Weltschmerz is right about the shortsightedness of those who think there are billions to be made in taxing the board. If any town should do it, it should be Aurora. I think that’s where their main computers are that the trades actually happen at. And they can move those anywhere, anytime.

  12. Due to hard infrastructure needs, that cannot just pick up and move anywhere. However around five or six years ago there were reportedly about ten truly legitimate site alternatives in the US. There are probably many more now.
