Last week, SEIU Healthcare Illinois began airing ads targeting Rauner and cuts to social services. Now the ads will be aimed at more than a dozen Republican House members, a union source tells Illinois Playbook: “The escalation will begin later this week and it will be statewide. More mail is coming. Cable TV spots. Digital. There will be a new child care TV spot coming, too.”
The ads took aim at the governor: “Governor Rauner is attacking those Illinoisans who care for our seniors and people with disabilities. Endangering our most vulnerable.” A caretaker then looks into the camera, saying: “I don’t know how he expects anybody to survive.”

* SEIU reached out about its new direct mail program today…
[Here’s the] first of several mailers. We have GOP targets that span the state. More than a dozen. Fewer than two dozen. They’ve been contacted individually, each asked to support fair contracts for our 53,000 home healthcare and child care workers, an end to the Rauner cuts and support for our our legislative package, which continues to advance in both chambers.

If the mail evaluation standard is what did I learn by looking at this piece in the time it took me to walk from the mailbox to the garbage can this piece isn’t very good. I’d know that someone doesn’t like Rauner and Bourne, not entirely sure why and that there’s a lot of small font stuff here that I didn’t take the time to read.

Ugh, Avery Bourne. It was such a coincidence that he put two young inexperienced people in positions to represent the largest concentration of State workers. I wouldn’t be surprised if he also thought it better to appoint women believing they would be easier to control (wrong as it would be). Gee I wonder why he’d want young inexperienced folks completely beholden to him rather than the two reps he bribed with directorships.
It really is sad, because he turned Poe against his constituents, and now most State workers in Springfield have no representation in the House. If selling a senate seat for a job is illegal, what is selling an abdication or a vote for a directorship? /rant

Effective but would have been better without so much small font text. Something representing the disenfranchised members as being held “hostage” by Mr. Rauner’s agenda would have been more forceful IMHO. I agree with DHSJim that AFSCME needs to adopt a strategy of targeting “enablers” of Mr. Rauner’s agenda sooner rather than later.

I haven’t done the fact-checking to see if this is “fair” but it is smart. Rauner has made very few friends since taking office, and it can’t be enjoyable to be considered his creature in this unprecedented impasse that has made Illinois government a national punchline. The GOP reps who have been complacent, or who have had their positions threatened for not aligning with the governor are undoubtedly looking for signs that they will have public support if they dare to distance themselves from him and his agenda.

Truly an act of political theater. As someone who works in community social services, the democratic budgets of the last decade have starved social service agencies. The last unbalanced budget passed by the legislature did nothing to meet the needs of community agencies. The only reason some agencies are getting paid is because of consent decrees the state agreed to in order to make up for years of underfunding in this part of the budget. But the Dems havethe gall to blame Rauner. Not sure whether to laugh or cry but either way it’s a lie. Of all the players Rauner has the least “ownership” of this sorry state of affairs. But I keep forgetting, it’snot about making sure everyone with disabilities gets services here in Illinois, it’s about making sure I keep getting re-elected. Very sorry situation.

Who actually is receiving this mailer and from what list(s) are they selected? I do not believe political mailers are read by many, if any recipients any more. Especially multi page ones containing small print. In most homes/apartments such mailers go straight to garbage or recycling bin. Total waste of SEIU union money I’d say.

Rauner owns his vetoes, Ron Sandack says the short term budget stalemate is purposeful by Bruce Rauner, so Rauner owns it.

Not a very good piece. Like others, I had to strain to read it. Maybe it’s better in print, but I had it on 100% and still had a tough time. Millionaires and Billionaires? Typical hyperbole. Millionaires would have been enough and been more effective. If you just look at the pictures (which the print style, font and size do their inadvertent best to cause you to do) Rep. Bourne has a nice image.
Once I did read it, it was not easy or flowing language. This is trying to do way too much. I don’t grade, I do pass/fail. This one fails. Mostly because it won’t hold attention between the mailbox and the recycle bin.

C- Somewhat better than nothing. Too many words too small. Should not even be necessary. We all have been told by the Gov. that this is his plan. It seems criminal to me, but I may be an old softy. Well, I am od for sure.

The Veteran is Vincent Speranza who wrote the book Nuts! Really interesting character. Anyway, how does Rauner get away with using public funds for campaigning. What I mean: his Turnaround agenda is campaign advertisement and he promotes it on the IL State website. How does he get away with that?

Pretty busy and wordy. The numbers detailing losses should be bigger and more prominent. Also, find a bad pic of Bourne, not a good one. She looks like an intern wantin’ to help ya.
