Did Mike Jacobs try to end the feud between his family and Rep. Mike Boland (D-East Moline)? (Thanks to a commenter for the tip):
Mike Jacobs said he hopes to bury the political hatchet with Rep. Boland.“I left 32 messages with him and he never called me back. Finally, I sought him out at an event and told him that I didn’t want this feud to continue. He listened to what I had to say. I can’t think of any reason he would want to have a feud with me,” Mr. Jacobs said.
Um, I can. Mike ran an opponent against Boland in the primary last year, and the guy has already announced that he’s running again. Boland’s reluctance to talk might be understandable. But this feud has been going on for almost 20 years. Maybe they should both get over it.
Jacobs will be appointed soon to replace his father, newly retired state Sen. Denny Jacobs.

Yes, Rich Miller, you are right on target. For the good of the QC-area & surrounding counties, these two factions should get over it. The time has come.

Yes, yes, for the good of the NW IL region these two families should put their battle to rest! How about Mike Boland for State Treasurer. Now that could be a very popular idea. Dems need a downstater on the ticket. Boland had decent name ID and supports popular issues.

Boland for Treasurer?
That would be great not only for our area but also the State! Mike is a hard working guy with the energy and leadership to be a great statewide official.
I certainly hope he considers this position!

Maybe people just don’t remember that Boland endorsed the Republican candidate for the 36th District Senate seat after Mr. Jacobs beat him fair and square in the primary. People still remember 20 years later! You don’t do that in northwest Illinois.

Boland has development a strong statewide voice as a consumer advocate. He could take that message statewide and with the help of allies in the House and in Chicago put a winning statewide ticket together. As a downstater, I am sick and tired of Chicago dominating our statewide ticket. It’s time for a downstater. Boland for State Treasuruer!!

Mike Jacobs has worked alongside Denny Jacobs for the past 15 years. He knows the issues and he knows Springfield. He’ll do a good job.

Mike Jacobs did a smart thing in extending an olive branch to Mike Boland. Boland for Illinois is what his campaign signs say; he’s been eyeing a run at a statewide office for awhile. It would not surprise me if he stays or goes; the only surprise is if he does run for the Senate, afer being rebuked by Jones, and the dem chairman for the position.

Whoever wrote that Mike Boland hasn’t done anything to earn a statewide candidacy hasn’t been paying attention! He has made more than 150 trips around the state to push popular, Democratic party positions for the good of the entire party. He has pushed a progressive message that, if more downstaters would follow, would help boost all downstate Democrats and all Democrats statewide. Remember Dick Durbin won by doing well downstate and winning big in Chicago. Mike Boland has the same ability to talk to the media and to groups.

Boland has every right to run for the Senate seat. I think he’d also make a fine Treasurer if he desired the post.
And Mike Jacobs calling Boland 32 times sounds like he’s obsessed! Who calls ANYONE 32 times?? I appreciate that he wants to cast himself as the conciliator in the squable and thereby cast Boland as the sore sport, but something tells me it won’t fly.
And I can’t get over the goofy happy-talk that shows up in these comments. Some are like badly written brochure copy, and they’re so transparently from supporters of a candidate that it’s laughable. Precious little honest opinion here I’m sad to say.

Boland is one of the few people in the House wiht common sense. I think if he could get Porter McNeil to run his campaign, he’d take a shot at treasurer. He is the chair of the Banking committee, worked on approp committees which gives him more experience than Tom Dart

I think Denny Jacobs is taking a reasonable step here. Listen, if Mike Boland were retiring from the State Senate do you think he would have a Jacobs’ state rep appointed to the Senate seat? Not in a million years.
Although not as well known as his dad, Mike Jacobs has been working alongside Sen. Jacobs for about 15 years in Springfield. He knows the ropes, he knows the process.
So for the good of the region these two faction should bury their provervial hatchets and get on with productive legislative relationship.

If Boland runs for Senate or some other office, who are the likely candidates for his seat in the democratic primary? What names are now being floated?

I know of no fued between Boland and Mike Jacobs. I know that Denny Jacobs and Boland didn’t get along. If you lose the primary and then back the republican canidate as Boland did that just sounds like a sore loser. Mike’s doing the right thing by reaching out to Boland, now the ball is in his court. Does he want to start working with other area politicians or continue with staus quo?
