White Sox “Blackout” strikes again

Posted in:

* Sorry for your troubles, Cub fans, but us Sox fans still see some life in our team. I’d like to humbly suggest this theme song for today’s game. Turn it all the way up…

Forget the hearse ’cause I never die

This is a Chicago White Sox open thread.

  1. Considering everything, I’d still rather be a Cubs fan.

    Black is for bad guys.

  2. I say turn it up to 11, because you know it’s one higher…

  3. I am a life-long Cubs fan. I am pulling for the Sox. That should jinx them.

  4. John Danks is money.

  5. Thank goodness one team showed to play a game in the playoffs.

Maybe da MAre can institute a drinking policy that will help the team. Mandatory carrot juice to help with the teams eyesight….. We have until 4:00 to see how government can help the sox pull this off.

  6. Kyle Orton had his best game as a pitcher on Sunday.

  7. if Gavin Floyd gets through the first inning unscathed, the White Sox will win Game 4. GO SOX!

  8. For crying out loud, I can’t believe that some Cub fans just can’t root for their other home team without ensuring that us Sox fans know our team isn’t worthy of their praise.

    Spare us!

  9. If there’s anything that this Sox team has taught us in the past few weeks, it has to be that when this team is backed into a corner they will some out fighting. Danks was money yesterday. Floyd was similarly important/reliable down the stretch for the Sox. If they are able to get that ball to Buehrle back in Tampa, I got a real good feeling.

  10. I am a Cubs fan, but I’m not a northsider, so I don’t hold any animosity toward the Sox. Kudos to Ken Griffey Jr. for taking second on that fly ball, it led to another run. I like seeing teams that play aggressively (not recklessly), putting the pressure on the other team to make a good play.

  11. thanks for the sympathy Rich…but winners find a way to win…nuff said…

  12. I love it! Sox still playing (their 4th consecutive elimination game) while the Cubs forgot to show up. Shows how much the regular season really means.

I don’t know if the Sox can advance past the Rays but I guess we know who the clutch team in Chicago really is!

  13. GO SOX!

  14. Cub fans didn’t notice that the National League best team over the regular season is like the early Democratic presidential primary frontrunner - they almost never make it to the Big Game. Cub fans should be celebrating the season, not mourning over the playoffs.

The White Sox also lost their first two games, but these were away games. They’re still in it. And this is a team that was rated at the beginning of the season as contenders for third or fourth place in their division.

Win or lose today or in game 5, I will appreciate all that the Sox did this year. But I do hope that they are again on a roll, as they were entering the playoffs in 2005.

  15. It was a good game. The Red Sox-Angels marathon was a GREAT game.

That said, this Cardinals fan is rooting for a White Sox revival.

  16. Go Expos

  17. Cubs fan here. I believe that if the roles were reversed, few if any Sox fans would root for the Cubs to come back. However, I had the Sox game on the radio yesterday while working outside and I was pulling for the men in black…unreal. Must be something in the water.

Comment by RobRoy Monday, Oct 6, 08 @ 12:03 pm

  18. 1st - GO WHITE SOX! and a yes vote for Back in Black.

2nd - I feel bad for the real Cub fans, like grand parents who have never seen them win it all in 80 or 90 some years and their chance s seem to get worse each year.

3rd - Oh boy, now we have to hear about yet another page in the lore and legend of the loveable losers in Cubbie blue.

4th - Serious question to older Cub fans, which is worse, the 69 collapse or this year, dominating the NL with 90+ victories, then 3 and out for the second year in a row.
