  1. Was the third voter at 6:20 in southern Sangamon County, Cotton Hill. Raining cats and dogs with standing water in the fields and on the road.

  2. DeKalb County 22 (just north of NIU)
At 6:45 steady flow but in and out quickly.
First time since moving to IL in 1988 that I’m not doing this in DuPage.

  3. 84 and partly cloudy in Aruba short line at the breakfast buffet

  4. I was voter 10 and my husband was voter 11 in a small town in Tazewell County. It was just after 6 am and busier than most years, but not a long wait.

The ballot scanner was acting up so mine went into the back slot. A judge got the scanner working so my husband’s ballot was scanned. Having been an election judge, I know it can be awkward first thing until you get a groove going.

    There was a light rain.

I think it was on this site where I saw a comment that the voting booths in the past had curtains. I miss those as well.

In the scheme of things, there have been few troublesome incidents with early voting and I hope that trend follows through today.

  5. At 7:45 the wife and I were 121 and 122 at our polling place of four precincts in Montgomery County. A line was forming at the first table as we were exiting.

  9. Steady rain in central Peoria. Line was the largest I’ve seen in 18 years voting at this location. I waited 45 minutes to vote and the line was about 40 deep. Was still long when I voted. Judges said no problems, just high turnout. We’ve had high early voting too.

  10. Not enough for lines, but steady here where we have 3 precincts in SW Springfield.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Nov 5, 24 @ 8:29 am

  11. Lines around the block again at 7:50AM at Chicago’s super site at Clark & Lake. Rain has paused. People in line seem upbeat.

  12. NW Chicago voter: Arrived at location 6:45 am. Two precincts - one had about 50 people in line, one had about 6. Fortunately, my precinct had the shorter line. 5 minute wait for ballot. 15 minutes to color in all the circles. Back home by 7:30.

  13. Voter 71 at my Township building in northwest rural Ogle. No lines but a few people voting. The election workers were super nice and friendly. There is hope for us.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Nov 5, 24 @ 8:48 am

  14. In the city, Ward 35 Precincts 13/14, there were ~20-25 people waiting at the time polls opened at 6am. The line was beginning to grow from there.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Nov 5, 24 @ 9:03 am

  18. The polling places I’ve visited this morning seemed to have a disproportionate number of women in line and voting.

Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Nov 5, 24 @ 9:05 am

  19. Avondale Elementary (Chicago W35, Pcts 12, 15, 16) was slammed like I’ve never seen it. Line was moving pretty well, but at least 50+ people in line at each precinct. Arrived ~730a, out the door by 815a. Mostly friendly chatter. No one was having to wait outside in the drizzle, so that helps.

Comment by Hail Zorp Tuesday, Nov 5, 24 @ 9:05 am

  20. Nortwest Madison County record rainfall, early voting near 50%. Short lines. Seems to be running smoothly. Some early sites had 40-50 in line.

  21. 32nd ward precincts 27 and 29 they were switching the ballots, probably gave out 30-40

  23. Small dink town north part of Peoria County. The line was only 5 deep. Slow going in front of the wife and me because one young gentleman was registering on the spot, and another elderly lady wanted to vote in person instead of using her mail in ballot but she didn’t know she needed to bring the ballot in to surrender it. I couldn’t hear everything, but after the judges made a phone call, she left without voting. My wife had a mail in ballot too and surrendered it in order to vote in person today. We had to call months ago to ask how she could vote in person. It’s dumb that they don’t tell you in the mail-in vote packet that you can still vote in person as long as you bring the ballot in and surrender it. It seems like common sense, but you still need to provide that explicit information.

    Love it.

Line was out the door down the block at 69 W Washington last night. Looks to be even stronger turnout than we saw in 2008.

Problem is - I already voted early.
