* The Cubs’ website went offline yesterday. Apparently, the team couldn’t put three “W’s” together.

Wrigley Field is suffering a prolonged denial of service attack from the mayor’s office…

Wrigley will post a big W on 6/8. Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) is performing live…unlike the Cubs lately.
And Rich, if you know Rev Wright, be prepared for a Rickett’s smear campaign heading your way in 3, 2, 1 …

I heard Joe Ricketts punished Tom Ricketts but good! Tom can’t go to Wrigley and watch his Dad’s team for a whole week.

I like that ESPN commercial when he says “The last no-hitter the Cubs threw was by the pitching machine”. Several good one-liners in that commercial….

@Willy-That’s not a punishment…making him go would be.

You’re a bad man, Rich Miller.
For those who didn’t see it, google Mark Konkol’s Sun-Times send-off to Kevin Hickey. That’s Chicago newspapering like we grew up with. A well-written, compelling story on the extraordinary life of a regular guy. Well done, Mark.
Sometimes, baseball is the only thing that you can hold on to.

Tom Ricketts is like a 12-year old with money and nothing to do … but go see the Cubs! Tom has no clue why everyone is mad at him …so the punishment works.

Say it ain’t so, Joe.

Konkol’s obituary of Hickey is indeed magnificent, the product of several conversations the two men had before Hickey’s coma.

they’ve conceded the next 3 years, they did that last winter. this would matter if the team and fan base actually cared about this season or were trying to win. call us back when blago is in the single digits in years left in prison.

–“The last no-hitter the Cubs threw was by the pitching machine”. –
Actually, it was by Zambrano against Houston in Milwaukee, for you baseball trivia fans out there.
Kenny Holtzman threw two, Burt Hooton threw one, and Milt Pappas got robbed of a perfect game by a cranky old umpire.
Holtzman was one of my favorite players. He had a no-trade clause when he was on the Yankees. Steinbrenner would call him in his office and tell him he was traded; Kenny would just say “veto” and walk out.
If you find the gasbags on ESPN entertaining, I can’t help you. Just show me the highlights.

Maybe the NATO protestors shut down the Cubs site by mistake along with other Chicago government web sites. Seeing how poorly run the organization was, they naturally assumed that the Cubs were a branch of government.

It’s like watching a slow train wreck. You know what is going to happen and can’t do anything about it. Thank goodness my Dad raised me a Sox fan!

Q: What do the Chicago Cubs and the Texas Rangers have in common?
A: Neither team won a World Series in their new stadium.

Miller, you’re killing me!!!
Shore and OW, you are correct. This was meant to be a rebuilding year. But I’m not an idiot - I fully realize how many re-building years we’ve had. I turned 55 today…..just hoping before I die……

Which is rotting faster - the Cubs team, or Wrigley Field? I say tear ‘em both down and move the team to Fresno.

Yeah, the Sox got their goat alright but gave it right back to them to keep the streak alive….

Seems to me there was a franchise that did a similar thing not too long ago, only instead of doing it in the offseason after the team had stunk, it did it in the middle of a pennant race when it was 3.5 games out of first. that team would be the white sox. they then proceeded to spend the next 4 years with slogans like “the kids can play” undergoing years of development and organization building after the prior era ended in a bust with the white flag trade. 3 years later they made the playoffs and 8 years later won their first title since the wilson administration.
here’s a refresher.

I am tired of the Ricketts and all the belly aching they do.
They were life long Cub fans, they knew the long term problems, with the team and Stadium. Yet they outbid everyone. Paa Leeze! It’s thier baby now, so they can suck it up and deal with it, we are tired of them crying about it.
Go Sox go against the Twins starting tonight at The Cell, I will be there!

The Occupy protesters are marching on US Cellular to protest the weekends harsh beatings the sox put on the cubs.
Comment by Fed up Tuesday, May 22, 12 @ 12:44 pm
I heard the Sox are giving away two free tickets for a game later this year to all CPD officers to thank them for their service this weekend.
Given the usually half empty Cell, couldn’t they give them 4 tickets each? 8?

47, tonight is Anarchist Cell Night at the Cell.
Everyone who wears a Guy Fawkes mask gets to jump the turnstyles and enjoy two-for-one Molotov cocktails.
A logical progression from Elvis-impersonator and bring-your-dog nights.
Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, May 22, 12 @ 1:22 pm
So other than the Guy Fawkes masks, about the same as any other Sox home game, right?

@wordslinger: I was a high schooler rooting for the O’s in Balitmore (how ’bout dem O’s, hon!?) when Kevin Hickey pitched there. He always cracked me up then and I had no idea about the rest of his life story until I read the Mark Konkol story, and it made me smile.

I encourage the Ricketts to issue an IPO on the Cubs and maintain a majority interest.
Shares not purchased by loyal Cubs fans will be bought up by pension funds.
Price it high. Raise plenty of cash for improvements at Wrigley.
