* The Super PAC Progressive Kick claims this ad will be “disseminated via cable TV and web ads in the district as well as emailed to 90,000 Democratic primary voters.” The ad begins with a visually striking special effect. Rate it…
The group raised over $800K last year, and had only about $87K on hand at the end of December. They could’ve raised more since then, though.

The gunshot stuff is good, curious if the slightly pixilated kid is someone who was shot..
Also think the dripping red is a bit much.
Comment by OneMan Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 12:45 pm
I’m guessing the kid in the commercial is a stock photo (i.e., model, actor). I would think (and hope) they would not have used a pic of a real Chicago kid that got shot.
Overall, if this is an issue that will move voters, I guess its an effective ad. Very simple… cuts to the chase.

If the gun issue is all those anointing got to differentiate their anointed from the rest, who’s gonna stop ‘em from going with it?

“Here are three candidates. These two are unacceptable. We’re not going to tell you which of these three to vote for, but for God’s sake don’t vote for these two!”
Our country’s Super PAC regulations are a disgraceful joke.

If Hutchinson won the day last week I would say the stars shifted over the weekend and it seems as if Kelly has won this week.
Comment by Spliff Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 1:18 pm
It’s a chick ad, from a chick candidate. Dramatic, emotional and appealing to those feeling scared and helpless.
What is the percentage of female voters in the second? Those seem to be the demographics Kelly and Hutchinson are fighting over.
What percentage of voters in the second are directly affected by Chicago’s murder rates?
Kelly is a single issue candidate with a solution that won’t pass Congress and won’t fix the issue.
Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 1:19 pm
@VannilaMan: the most recent numbers I’ve seen show 47% male vs. 53% female in that district.

This coupled w/ the Bloomberg ad is really good news for Robin. I didn’t see a path to victory for her, but I certainly do now.

Sagacious analysis.

If Rahm doesn’t want Sandi Jackson’s furniture is it too late to file petitions to get it into the 4/9 general election?
Comment by Kasich Walker, Jr. Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 1:52 pm
Any NRA/ISRA money going to Halvorson to get her on the air? That would be of interest to other lawmakers, I think.
Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 1:52 pm
In my experience “disseminated via cable TV and web ads” is similar if not identical to “leaving it here on YouTube with a press release.”
Comment by Will Caskey Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 1:56 pm
I regret my flippant remark, but let’s hear candidates speak more on other issues — like energy, airports, military budgets & occupation expenses, removing cannabis from schedule 1, reversing bills to fund 75 years of postal pensions in 10 years.

B-,
The Picture of Kelly, and then dropping her completely can leave some wonderning, “why is the 3rd person not talked about at all?”
I would say leaving the picture of Kelly OUT would be more effective.

Yikes–just like Mayor Bloomberg’s SuperPAC Ad attacking the former Congresswoman nightly for several days now, here we go again, THIS time throwing Sen. Hutchinson into their line of fire (pun INtended) as well! Ok, we get it, THAT issue, and the NRA’s influence is admittedly very important, but I just really hope the voters of the 2nd CD will start to get more vigilant now and see right through what’s really going on here, and start to insist the Candidates begin to emphasize, or RE-emphasize their positions on the plethora of the OTHER, several, significant National issues of our day in their OWN TV and Radio Ads which their future U.S. Congresswoman (or Congressman) will be grappling with and voting on their behalf about–particularly in a District which has practically (and woefully) suffered from nil representation for SEVeral months running now…!

The Tribbies say that Bloomberg’s SuperPac “has spent at least $660,000 for 12 days of TV ads blasting Democratic congressional candidate Debbie Halvorson’s past support from the National Rifle Association….”‘
That’s some tall cotton. The dude’s worth $25 billion.

@Just The Way It Is…
That’s the problem.
Airport? Robin Y Halvorson Y Hutchison Y
Reproductive Rights? Robin Y Halvorson Y Hutchison Y
Energy policy favorable to President?
Robin Y Halvorson Y Hutchison Y
ad infinitum…
Robin has done about as well as expected in distinguishing herself with the one issue she can use. With the help of a NY sugar daddy, admittedly.
Comment by Six Degrees of Separation Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 7:06 pm
Why didn’t Bloomberg go after Toni Hutchison right away? She has appeared to be a lot closer to Halvorson with support from the NRA than any of the other challengers. Just wondering.
Comment by Just asking Thursday, Feb 7, 13 @ 7:25 pm
With all due respect to Robin Kelly’s critics, some of whom I find myself in agreement with quite often, I think the strategy and message laid out by her campaign is a pretty strong one.
A multi-field race, low turnout, low public attention election, you can only run a single issue campaign.
