* From the Illinois Review…
SEN. RAOUL’S POSTCARD HAS ALL THE HALLMARKS OF A HOAX
Left-wing blogger Rich Miller is writing about “a couple of postcards” State Sen. Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) received and shared with him. The seemingly pro-gun postcards are laced with racial and anti-Semitic “hate speech” and have no return address. They were reportedly mailed to Raoul this month and disseminated to the public via Miller today as conceal carry legislation is being debated in the General Assembly.
The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) read the “timely” revelation as implying they were behind the hate mail and strongly denounced Miller in his comment section.
A hoax, eh? Nice state of denial they’re in.
Also, the ISRA didn’t once “denounce” me in comments. Unlike Illinois Review, the ISRA denounced the language used in the postcards…
We are appalled by the language and accuastions used in both of these examples. Needless to say, they are not the position of the ISRA.

What did you do to Pee in their cheerios?? I may not always agree with you but i’d say you are far from Left wing on the blog here. I wonder if they ever heard of a little thing called proof?

You’re a left-winger now, Rich?
Woooo! Welcome to the dark side, baby! Tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend!

I like my hoaxes to be of the “Loch Ness” or “Bigfoot” type, but a good “Alien Autopsy” will get my attention.
Funny thing about calling something a “hoax”, ya better be able to prove it …
Or make it a “tourist stop” like Loch Ness, the Andes Mountains or Roswell N.M.

One week ago in the post about IR’s response to the 17 year old voting in primaries bill I asked if I could start a conspiracy theory that Illinois Review was designed to create a permanent Democrat majority in Illinois. I was joking… then. Now?
Comment by hisgirlfriday Friday, May 24, 13 @ 1:59 pm
How do they know this was a hoax?
Unless they sent the postcards to Raoul?
Just sayin’…
Comment by Wensicia Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:02 pm
Wait a sec! Is this POST a hoax? I think there was an article on something like this in a back issue of “Conspiracy Today”. Let me go look it up . . .

You know what the next headline is. “Left Winger Rich Miller puts hoax video of attractive woman on blog to draw attention to his failing publication”
Comment by Mason born Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:05 pm
@Wensicia
Until I see evidence that proves that they didn’t send them, I will believe that they did.
Comment by TJ Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:06 pm
“and have no return address.” That’s “all the hallmarks of a hoax” ????
Anything else the postcards have that leads you to that conclusion?
So, Illinois Review, if they did have a return address, you would be convinced of their validity?
Comment by low level Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:09 pm
Looks like some of the pro-gun zealots are as obnoxious and whacked out as the anti-gun zealots.
Isn’t that always the way?
Comment by Jim Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:10 pm
I have worked this side of electeds and can tell you this is not uncommon at all (minus the racial aspect. That part IS extraordinary in my experience). While it is safely less than 1% of total traffic, I would say it is safely less than 15% of the traffic for gun issues. If this is a hoax, then it’s a hoax that’s been perpetrated for years and years.
Comment by Colossus Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:11 pm
Can’t prove a negative. As I said before it could be a hoax. But no evidence.
Most likely a couple of nuts with serious mental issues. Oh wait I’ve just described the IR readership. hee.
Comment by too obvious Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:12 pm
If they had return addresses, the Illinois Review would be crying foul because you’d be violating the racists’ privacy.
Comment by Yossarian Lives Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:27 pm
It’s ironic that the IR story was unsigned.
Wait.
Maybe the IR story was a hoax?
Hey.
Maybe the IR itself is a hoax?
Nah.
Right?

Comment by Self Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:32 pm
I recognize all the ridicule directed at this publication.
But in its defense, isn’t it possible that it recognizes the language used is so far beyond the bounds of appropriate discussion that it simply cannot be true. that would be a rather naive view of human nature.
I don’t know anyone who would make those kinds of arguments. Maybe the people at IR don’t either and
mistakenly assume that no one does.

@ Rich -
You should’ve known better than to put Oscar’s butterfly sticker on that one card.
That Fran Eaton is quite the sleuth I tell ya.
Remember when Eaton uncovered the “truth” about Rahm Emanuel’s tax evasion because she didn’t understand how property taxes worked?
She should’ve gotten a Pulitzer for fiction that year, or at least a VH1 Viewer’s Choice Award.

I think this is a Conspiracy. You’ve probably had more people click on the link to their story then they had all week.
Comment by Mason born Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:35 pm
Jim, there’s a reason why use of the “n-word” results in an automatic deletion here. There were some morons who I couldn’t block before I used this blogging platform. I don’t think that talking like that is an impossibility - to say the least.
Also, the other day the IR came up with a conspiracy theory about how a 17 year olds can vote in a primary bill was really about the brown vote. Today they claim a racist postcard is a hoax. See a pattern here?
Comment by Rich Miller Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:41 pm
Good point Rich. That, and they’re just plain crazy.
Comment by Chicago Cynic Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:42 pm
I believe Rich’s point Jim is that to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Comment by Chicago Cynic Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:43 pm
Your stories today bashing Quinn’s leadership were both elaborate parts of the conspiracy so that certain people will not realize that you are a left winger.
Nice try Rich, but the IR’s on to you!

=== laced with… anti-Semitic “hate speech” ===
The postcard was disgusting and certainly filled with racial hate speech, but not really anti-semetic hate speech. Yes, it references Hitler with a “seig heil” but was bizarrely done in a way that is anti-Hitler. Again, this whole thing is sick, but this Jew wanted to point this out.
Comment by Just Observing Friday, May 24, 13 @ 2:50 pm
What’s with them putting quotation marks around the term hate speech? Are they implying that it wasn’t really hate speech? Those words seemed pretty hateful to me.

To be fair, the Illinois Review crowd has to be exhausted. It takes a lot of energy bashing gays, excluding moderates and calling them RINOs, scheming to dump the State Republican chairman, and dreaming up conspiracies while they lose election after election. They don’t have a lot of time to be creative.

===Does it bother you to be labeled “left wing” or “liberal”? I see these as ideologies, not insults.===
When the IR writes “left wing”, they intend for it to be seen as a negative by their readers.
In the opening words of the first sentence, they intentionally use the words left-wing to influence the reader before the reader even knows what they are reading about.
If the IR keeps moving the definition of Left WIng farther to the right, they are going to find themselves nearing extinction on the right edge.

Rich, I didn’t say using the n-word is an impossibility. I said that some people might have the naive view that no one talks like that anymore and that’s why they IR was immediately suspicious of attributing that speech style for pro-gun people.
Obviously, some people do talk like that. No one that I know well does? How about you?
As far as using left-wing as a negative to invoke automatic hostile, that’s probably true. Just like some use right-wing as a description to invoke immediate hostility. it’s one of the reasons why people talk past each other instead of having a reasonable debate. you’d know that if you weren’t such a left-winger. calm down, I’m pulling your chain.

You’re awfully generous.
But I think the history will show you that those who will go down the road with that kind of racial hatred find it quite easy to keep going, whether its Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Roma, gays or anyone who doesn’t toe their line.
This formerly blond-haired (now grey), still blue-eyed Aryan whose old man did hard-time in a Nazi slave labor camp for not toeing the line wanted to point this out.

It’s used more than you would think. My grandfather used it all the time. I’ve heard my parents use it on occasion as well. Their use is a generational thing. That’s what they were taught.
Comment by Demoralized Friday, May 24, 13 @ 3:46 pm
What are “all the hallmarks of a hoax” anyways?
The use of a postcard?
The timing of the disclosure?
The fact that others have done racial hoaxes in the past?
Hmm… pretty thin logic if you ask me.
