Bruce Rauner is to Charles Ponzi what Pat Quinn is to Paul Simon.

Rauner invites comparisons to some of the great deceivers and unsustainable business practitioners.

His political campaign is no exception, attracting huge investments with promises of big returns, although very few “industry” experts believe he will actually achieve any of those lofty policy goals, even if elected.

Still, even his harshest critics admit he falls short of the criminality of Ponzi, the ruthlessness of
Mr Potter or the audacity of Rod Blagojevich.

By the same token, Quinn invites comparison to Simon in his idealism, his ethics, and on the downside his sometimes Quixotic quests.

Yet even Quinn’s best defenders know that Quinn is much more “pragmatic” in his political manueverings than Simon ever was, and his biggest detractors privately know that pension reform tops a list of axxomplishments that demonstrate he is more than just a gadfly.
