* I really like the visual quality of Bobby Schilling’s new TV ad…
* Script…
Bobby Schilling: “I know these roads—lived here my whole life. I know our people, our places, and our perseverance. I know our struggles—and our successes. This is my home. This is where Christie and I are raising our 10 kids. It’s where I started our family restaurant. I know first-hand how Washington makes it hard for families and workers, and I want to stop it. I’m Bobby Schilling, and I approve this message because I know we’re all on this road together.”
*** UPDATE *** From the Cheri Bustos campaign…
“Bobby Schilling’s first ad is a blatant attempt to hide the ‘Real Bobby Schilling’s’ record of putting the Tea Party first and Illinois middle class families last. In Congress, Schilling voted to protect tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, to end the Medicare guarantee for seniors and walked out of a public meeting with workers whose jobs were shipped to China. Now he’s making a six figure salary working for one of his campaign contributors helping wealthy Chinese businessmen game the immigration system. If this is what he means by ‘leading by example’ Illinois working families will reject him once again this November.”

Good visuals, production and concept.
But the script makes it.

Wow.
Best Ad I’ve seen yet.
“A”…restaurant quality, great angles, editing, and simple.
Wow, that’s good.

Interesting that there is no mention of party.

Best ad I have seen yet. Well put together.

Man - that was great! More please. There is a reason I walked precincts in four counties for Bobby in 2010. This ad is a good reminder.

Bustos and Schilling have the best campaign ads this year. The DCCC Bost Ad is the best I’ve seen by an outside group. What is the media buy on this ad? I know Schilling has not been raising a bunch of money, but if he can get money behind this it could move numbers.

Really good spot. Who did it?

Keeps you watching because you want to find out who is under the helmut. Shows his full face when he approves the message. Better take notes in the on the North Shore.

Very good ad.
“We’re all on this road together” sounds communitarian to me. I like it, but if the Ayn Rand crowd hears him talking this way, they might not want him back in Congress.

“communitarian” is the word of the day. It makes you pause and think about it.
Good ad. Riding a motorcycle when you’ve got 10 (count’em) kids seems a little risky. But he’s wearing a helmet and there’s probably more space on those country roads. All in all, nicely done.

Good ad. Nice positive message.
Like many ads, meaningless, but it will connect with voters.
I also give it an A.

This ad is great! By far the best I have seen so far. You can tell that Steve Shearer was behind this.

His campaign the last two years hadn’t been living up to his 2010 and 2012 campaigns. I thought he lost a lot of his swagger and staff from back then.
After seeing this ad I think the swag is back for Mr. Schilling!
Comment by Galena Pirate Thursday, Sep 4, 14 @ 4:44 pm
Cool ad - but coincidentally he is on the road alone throughout the entire commercial.
Would have been a more effective message if he was actually riding off with other bikers at the end.

Schilling had big dollar fundraisers with Majority Leader McCarthy in Peoria and Boehner in the Quad Cites. He’s getting the money. And I also love the radio ad against Bustos from an outside group. Without an Obama surge, Bustos is done. Schilling is working hard but a bit below statewide radar. Plus Bustos mortally wounded herself on that broken promise if giving back 10% of her pay. That is personal greed.

I like actual footage in the district and people in the district. How hard is that?
Why the national phone-it-in consultants don’t understand that authenticity breeds empathy is beyond me.
“We’re all on this road together.” Dold, Davis, now Schilling — GOP congressional candidates got the warm and fuzzies this cycle.
I guess the outside groups can drop the napalm and keep the nasty away from the candidate.
The change in tone starts at the top. Paul Ryan has been doing the national media rounds expressing remorse over his obscene “makers and takers,” and “full stomach, empty soul,” rhetoric.

===Paul Ryan has been doing the national media rounds expressing remorse===
He also stopped listing Ayn Rand as his favorite author. He learned a lot by losing.

good ad.

Wordslinger is right on — the national consultants don’t get it.
They use good video from the district — believable, good video that works. I live in the 17th and highly recommend that candidates who come out with good positive stuff may differentiate and win.

How do Callis, Bustos, and Schilling all get better ads out than any of the statewide candidates? Word has it - local talent.
Comment by walker Thursday, Sep 4, 14 @ 8:56 pm
First rate ad.
Outstanding production values.
Great script.
Bustos and her crew’s response was uninteresting.
A+
Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Sep 4, 14 @ 11:01 pm
Bustos’ best response is to complain that Bobby is making 6 figures in a non-government job? Bustos makes 6 figures as a Congresswoman. And she’d still make 6 figures if she kept her promise to return 10% of her salary—which she still refuses to make good on. People love that…

great ad, but the lack of (other) people is noticeable [roads don’t vote; i don’t know how many motorcyclist will]…
Comment by bored now Friday, Sep 5, 14 @ 8:18 am
He’s wearing a jacket from a gun manufacturer in his district, Springfield Armory in Geneseo. Subtle reference that the 2nd Amendment crowd will recognize but the other side probably won’t notice.
Comment by Freeze up Friday, Sep 5, 14 @ 8:24 am
Maybe a motorcycle tour of the district with Bruce Rauner is next, lol.
Comment by Wumpus Friday, Sep 5, 14 @ 8:44 am
Bobby, I work for Springfield Armory, don’t think your XDM jacket in this ad hasn’t gone unnoticed. =)
Comment by *BigFan* Friday, Sep 5, 14 @ 9:25 am
I also noticed the XDM jacket and wondered how many mentions it would get. I like the ad…no name calling, no bickering, just a positive ad to get his name out there and make people take notice.
