Chief Procurement Office says Rauner owes state $250

The Illinois Tollway has decided not to penalize a road contractor for contributing $250 to the Bruce Rauner campaign last spring in violation of a state ban on such contributions.

However, the state’s Chief Procurement Office now wants Rauner’s campaign to pony up the $250 within thirty days. Read it here.

  2. I have to admit, when it said $250K, I clicked fast to find out.

  3. Yeah. What a weird thing to do on my part. Stupid. Oh well. It’s gone now.

  4. The notice contact is an attorney with the chief procurement office which is part of the EEC, not tollway. The money may go to ITA, but the decision came from the EEC.

  5. Offer them the van, and if they won’t take it - uh, Evelyn.

  6. Reading the complaint, sounds like it was an uninformed mistake by the contractor. Since the state is not voiding the contract, I went looking for some specific language and found it … the infamous (at least to people who deal with State contracts) “best interest of the State” phrase that can be used as justification for a lot of stuff.

  7. Bruce better pay his bills within 30 days.

iirc, it is a rule that you cannot run for office while owing the state money. Someone better get that check in the mail tomorrow.

  8. This is really a small deal. The Quinsters have really jumped the shark on this one.

  9. Did Executive Director, Kristi Lafleur come up with that ALL by herself? Guess she wants to keep her koosh job.

  10. yeah, bruce spills wine worth more than this

  11. So 150 seconds worth of work for Rauner?

You know what would be weird? If dollar bills actually appeared in his pocket in real time as he made them. It’d be like a giant firehose flying from his pockets as he stood and gave a speech.

  12. Also agree with the above sentiment… this couldn’t be more ticky tack of a “hit.”

  13. Thank goodness the tollway authority, that historic bastion of goo-gooery and do-rightedness, is keeping everything on the square!

They’re obviously combing their books pretty thoroughly to find this.

Notice anything else hinky in there?

    Is this a gag?

  14. What is truly amazing is… the fact this isn’t the Frerichs campaign.

  16. wordslinger -

Executive Director, Kristi Lafleur knows she’s going to be looking for a real job if Bruce Rauner is elected.

  17. They can find $250.

They can’t find anything over $250K…

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 2:36 pm

  18. The Executive Ethics Commission did this, not Tollway.

Comment by Anon Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 2:42 pm

  20. Be easier to pay it than fight it. I would pay in nickels. I don’t where Rauners campaign made the violation. Looks like the donor did. I may be wrong, I’m not a lawyer.

  21. The post idea came from a friend who is on an e-mail list for Tollway rules announcements. It didn’t come from the Quinnsters. I would’ve told you if it did.

  22. You should change the headline. Not about the ITALY at all…

Comment by Troubling Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:12 pm

  23. ITA

Comment by Troubling Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:12 pm

  24. Actually, it is kind of about the ITA … the contract could have been voided over that $250.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:16 pm

  25. This happens occasionally, for multiple candidates. I see the notices published either in the Illinois Register or on the Illinois Procurement Bulletin. The law is the campaign pays the funds to the State. IIRC this is the provision of the procurement code (30 ILCS 500/50-37) the AFL-CIO filed a complaint over concerning Rauner’s self funding during the primary. For what it’s worth the most recent examples were in the 9/12 and 9/26 editions of the Illinois Register.

  26. Since the individual was the one who made the contribution, and not the company, somebody would have had to have dropped the dime for them to catch this. Oh well. All’s fair in politics, I guess.

Comment by phocion Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:22 pm

  27. You conspiracy nuts are really all in. I bet this one came straight from the Air Force One didn’t it? And I bet Bruce is gonna end up in a FEMA camp if he doesn’t pay up, right?

Comment by Precinct Captain Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:26 pm

  28. Agree. Much ado about nothing.

Comment by Black Ivy Thursday, Oct 2, 14 @ 3:37 pm

  30. I hope you’re not referring to me as a conspiracy nut, PC. The guy who contributed had a different last name from the company he worked for. How would anyone know he is an “affiliated individual” by just looking at campaign finance disclsoures? Very, very probably that someone at the Tollway knew the guy had an ownership interest in McCann and forwarded the information to the right people. Not defending what the guy did because he clearly broke the rules. Just curious that he was caught considering the circumstances.

His employer’s name is on the disclosure.

  32. == The guy who contributed had a different last name from the company he worked for==

The guy would have been listed in the contract documents. There is no conspiracy here.
