That’s a Jason Gonzales sign, of course. Gonzales was pardoned, by the way. But I’m pretty sure felons can run for the state legislature.

* Bernie Sanders ain’t the only candidate out there trying to tie his Democratic opponent to Rahm Emanuel…
* And, as we all know, Rahm’s former buddy is being used in some Democratic campaigns as well, like the one to replace retiring state Sen. Willie Delgado (D-Chicago)…
* And even a Rauner/Rahm campaign contributor is getting some Bernie time…

* Meanwhile, in actual news…
Interest in election contests and same-day voter registration are two reasons that voters may need to exercise patience at polling places, Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray said Tuesday.
“People are coming out at a steady pace and people should expect to know that it’s taking a little bit longer than normal,” Gray said in a late-morning Election Day interview. “Patience is appreciated, and we’re working very hard.”
Gray had said he thought turnout could peak at about 25 percent – a few percentage points higher than in similar elections in recent years. […]
Gray also said that “a fair amount of folks” were taking advantage of law allowing same-day registration and voting. He recommends the most efficient route for people using that option is to go to the county election office, Room 105 of the Sangamon County Complex, 200 S. Ninth St., Springfield. All ballot forms are on hand there, so people with the needed two forms of identification – including one with their current home address – can register and vote, all in a matter of minutes.
* And a spokesman for the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners said during a conference call this afternoon that there was strong turnout in the morning, but it has since fallen off…
“We do not expect to reach the 53 percent turnout (equal to 2008) or anything close to it unless there’s a huge evening rush… Assuming that the weather holds, we’re looking at in the range of 40 percent.”
He then backed totally off that informal projection.
Either way, as I’ve said many times before, 2008 was an outlier. You can’t really compare any other year to that one. And this year’s turnout would be a lot better than 2012, which was 17 percent.

Voted just before 3:00 on the south side of Springfield. Three City precincts there along with one County. My ballot was 724 which is higher than normal for mid-afternoon. Judges I talked with said it seemed higher to them as well. No line for a ballot, but I had to wait to use a voting carrel.

I like Angelica, she still has a decent future in the Charter network. But seriously, did she not consider how this was going to turn out?
Granted, Omar is not the best candidate - he has his own challenges (including his alliance to Berrios).
Juanita should have stepped up to run.

Voted around 2:00 in the 36th Legislative and 72nd Representative (the Quad Cities Hotle/Halpin/Jacobs race). My precinct is always amongst the highest voting in the QC, and at the poll I was told that the numbers are up today for this primary. The judge handing out the ballots said she was thinking our percent will be above 40% and if the morning’s trend continue maybe even up towards 60%.
While I was there (about 10 minutes), I counted 43 voters who were voting or in line in that time.
I saw a teen complete same-day voter registration smoothly.
The woman in front of me handed her DL to one of the judges and was promptly was told “Oh, no, we can’t ask for that.” The phrasing made me wonder if there had been a problem earlier, and I was told no. I mentioned that there may have been another precinct where people were asked for ID’s (per a Cap Faxer this morning), she looked a little taken aback. I couldn’t talk longer since I was holding up the line.
I have never witnessed any problems at my precinct.
I was surprised at the lack of signs near my polling place. It’s situated where two significant streets meet at a 4-way stop, yet there was only one sign, for a minor local race, kitty corner from the polling place.

Long lines in Elgin to vote. Turnout is much larger than I have seen in the past. Voting is well organized this year and it was a quick 10-15mins to get through the line.
Comment by SuburbanVoter Tuesday, Mar 15, 16 @ 2:42 pm
40% would still be ridiculously high citywide. I doubt it gets that high. That would mean over 500,000 Dem Primary voters in the city.

Metra BNSF just announced extensive delays after a pedestrian incident at Cicero. That should affect turnout in the Western ‘Burbs.
I most certainly won’t be able to get out there before polls close.

Madigan’s brand of campaigning is disgusting. Has he knocked on a single door? Has he gone to one candidate forum? Did he do one interview? Has he explained to anyone why he deserves their votes? Nope, all he can do is trash the other guy.

In Chatham, there’s just one person who can do the same day registrations. He has to drive back and forth between polling places like a madman. People are having to wait a half hour or
More.

I like the Bernie Sanders interview that just came out in which he explains that he ran as a Dem just to get the attention. He has done nothing for other candidates in the party, what a shame, since a President would do better with House and Senate members from their own party.

It appears Dunkin doesnt know what district hes in anymore, as he had guys handing out the bogus flier saying Pat Dowell is backing him, and the one with Stratton side by side with Rahm and Madigan.
The only problem is I’m in the 4th Ward (not Dowell’s 3rd) and the 6th Rep District (Harper, not Dunkin)
Oops! LOL

Met Toni Preckwinkle outside 6th District polling place in the South Loop. She was making sure Kim Foxx’s people had enough literature. By the time I walked the four blocks to my home polling place (5th District), she had already stopped there too. They aren’t taking anything for granted. The timing of the protests at the UIC, the cancellation, blaming Sanders for keeping Trump out of Chicago…Bernie Sanders couldn’t buy that kind of advertising.

News-Gazette photo seems to show strong student turnout at the Illini Union on the Urbana campus: http://www.news-gazette.com/multimedia/photogallery/2016-03-15/primary-election-march-15-2016 . I don’t know when this news photo was taken, but I went over for a look at 4:30 pm and there were at least 200 students standing in line then. This could be a record student turn out; we’ll see soon enough.

While I think the fake newspaper thing is weak, the issue for me in Kaye’s filing against Phillips is coordination. Very clearly there was which is supposed to be illegal. Frankly we need to get Citizens United overturned and institute real campaign finance reform here so this dark money garbage can stop.
Comment by Chucktownian Tuesday, Mar 15, 16 @ 3:54 pm
If Hillary loses you can blame Hillary.
Did she do any campaigning here, or just a couple fundraisers? I’ve seen one commercial from her, compared to a ton from Bernie. Did she assume that since she went to high school here however many years ago that IL was locked up for her? I’ve said it before; she may be a decent executive, but she is a horrific candidate on the trail.

I’ve spoken to some Ds who’d been on the fence about the race for Pres. They all broke for Bernie because events this past weekend showed he’d fight Trump toe to toe while Hillary seemed to be MIA.
I was outside a Trump rally in St. Louis on Friday. Bernie’s people were there in force. They were peaceful, but loud and proud. They even set up voter registration tables in the midst of the Trump supporters. I saw no sign of any Hillary supporters in the crowd.
I really think the Trump train seemingbto pick up speed is helping Bernie now. Many people sense Bernie is just itching for a fight with Trump while maybe Trump isn’t exactly itching for a fight with Bernie. Trump seems much more enthusiastic about a fight with Hillary.

PS: I was impressed by this little thing from the Bernie camp. Weeks ago I made a small online donation to his campaign and I filled in the line with my cell number.
Yesterday I got a text from a Chicago number reminding me to vote today for Bernie. The text even gave the correct polling place even though I changed my voter registration and precinct last month. I assume it was a real person who texted me the info because when I replied that I’d already voted I got a reply text with a a nice thank you and personal message. I live in Southern Illinois. I was impressed.

Upbeat but relentless and aggressive. I told my pro-Bernie friends that they were wasting their time, that Illinois and the nomination were a lock for Hillary, but they wouldn’t listen.
And they were right.
