I’m still mystified by the “I’m a national leader” stuff from Pritzker that is heard in commercials. Who says that about themselves? also, who says he’s a national leader? Isn’t that something one gets from others? I get he’s a leading donor, but that is not the same thing as leader.

Twitter is an effective platform for breaking news, news links and for narcissists to share real-time updates on the ever-changing contents of their navels.

High chance there will be blowback against his candidacy. Kennedy is not out.

Can anyone name significant policies elucidated by Rauner and then enacted? A lot of citizens can tell me he allegedly wears an $18 watch and drives a beater van. They can’t name any policy achievements.

“They can’t name any policy achievements.” Strangle social services and higher ed?

His ad blitz is very reminiscent of Hillary’s in the early days of the 2016 race–trying to ram through a consensus in his favor through brute force. Kennedy is certainly not out but he must sharpen his attack tremendously.

Nutter Butter cookies. Keep your darned Oreos.
Comment by Nick Name Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 9:18 am
Have as many Oreos as you wish. Just know that if you need to then go to the dentist and you’re a state employee you’ll be coughing up the $ to fill those Oreo-causing cavities because of the budget impasse.

Speaking of policy, what’s Bruce’s proposal on revenue enhancement? Christine (along with the Senate) suggested 4.95% and Bruce torpedoed it.
Comment by Jocko Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 9:25 am
QS, Pritzker’s efforts are nothing like Clinton’s.
He’s introducing himself, building name recognition and defining himself before someone else does. SOP for a new candidate, similar to what Rauner did.
Clinton obviously had name recognition and most people had made up their minds on her one way or the other long ago.
Kennedy has no problem with name recognition.

===His ad blitz is very reminiscent of Hillary’s in the early days of the 2016 race===
Ugh.
Hillary’s ad blitz was “it’s her turn” and discussing why it was her turn.
This is intro-ing an unknown entity in the political arena.
Two different prongs

He’s a visionary…BUT (but?) he gets things done.
Really? I don’t get that. Visionaries usually don’t?
Just hits me really weird. Like “he’s rich, BUT he talks to poor people”.
Head scratcher for sure.

==Kennedy is certainly not out but he must sharpen his attack tremendously.==
If 2016 is the parallel (and I agree with Word and OS that there’s some big caveats to that) then Kennedy is particularly ill-equipped to mount a strong challenge. The well-equipped ones are up on the northside and in Evanston…

I noticed in a recent JB mailer that he “worked with” several groups to get things done.
I have “worked with” Innocence Project, Fisher House Foundation, and a bunch of other charities I donate to regularly to get things done.
Does that make me a national leader too?

==This is intro-ing an unknown entity in the political arena.==
Yeah, pretty much. It’s interesting to watch someone with such a low public profile (I know the family name is on half of Chicago, but that doesn’t translate to JB necessarily, and it means absolutely bupkis outside of Chicagoland) but with so many resources go about introducing himself.

If I were running your campaign, I’d put it on your mailers.

Received this mailer today. Not a word about solving Illinois problems.
Since JB gets it done how would he solve the budget impasse?
Does he support Speaker Madigan’s policies? Where does he differ?
Does he think every single item on the Turnaround Agenda is bad?
What is his progressive vision for Illinois?
What does his tax plan look like?
What does his spending plan look like?
Does he believe pensions in Chicago and statewide are sustainable as currently structured?
JB supposedly puts forward big ideas but we have not heard anything about solving Illinois problems other than apparently agreeing with Speaker Madigan on everything.

Visionaries talk about “shaking things up” leaders make it happen.
Comment by Pundent Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 10:05 am
Maybe they should have used the wording “He’s a visionary WHO gets things done.”
Comment by Christopher Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 10:10 am
I’m looking at it this way: Rauner is Godzilla. To fight Godzilla you need Mothra, That’s J.B. This is the situation that we have been dealt. It’s not about getting the perfect Dem–it’s only sheer strength ($$$) that will prevail. J.B. is demonstrating that he understands that 100%.
Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 10:16 am
I would assume his progressive vision would be that the 14 billionaires in Illinois should pay their fair share.
JB’s actions do not match his words as he has hired property tax lawyers who advised him to remove the toilets in one of his many homes to avoid paying over a quarter of a million dollars in property taxes. Hypocrisy alert!
Removing toilets is certainly visionary. Getting things done indeed.

LP, I’m not sure you’ve quite wrapped your arms around political communications.
Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 10:25 am
LP - I think you’ve asked some very relevant questions. But is this the campaign that Rauner wants to run? He has a record now and it isn’t one of accomplishments. While the word “Madigan” fires up the base I don’t see how it sways the independents and Democrats to get behind him. And in that same vein, Pritzker hasn’t demonstrated that he can’t work with Madigan. Same can’t be said for Rauner.

Kennedy and his operatives seem hellbent on throwing shade on JB Pritzker by comparing him to Hillary Clinton.
Here is the thing: Kennedy maxed out his contributions to Hillary in the primary. Not only did Kennedy oppose Bernie Danders, Kennedy was one of the political insiders who was part of the Clinton primary coronation.
For a prince of one of America’s most powerful political dynasties to claim he opposes monarchies is dishonest, and to make it the central theme of his campaign is dishonest to the core.
Someone please explain to me while I am wrong, without trying to say “So-and-so did it first” or “What the other guy did was worse…” kennedy’s position is logically and morally indefensible. If his last name was “Green” we would not even be talking about him.
Comment by Juvenal Thursday, Jun 29, 17 @ 10:30 am
“Bernie Danders” would be a great name for a politician in the Zootopia sequel.

AMALIA,
You keep asking, “who says he’s a national leader?” and I keep answering you but you choose to ignore the answer. JB led the effort to organize the White House Summit on Early Childhood Education. So Barack Obama says he’s a leader. So do all the major organizations in Early Childhood education in the US. It’s not just writing a check, but his work in the area.
Amalia, you can keep ignoring this and I’ll just keep typing it. But his national leadership in this area going back decades is not a disputable point.

==I’m looking at it this way: Rauner is Godzilla. To fight Godzilla you need Mothra, That’s J.B.==
Please do not insult the good name of Mothra. A more accurate JB monster analogy would be King Ghidorah, with each head symbolizing the offspring of Donald Pritzker.

Sadly I don’t think we’ll get much more than this from Kennedy. He reminds me of a boxer who keeps coming out each round knowing that he can’t match the punches of his opponent.

No resemblance between the Pritzker and Clinton campaign in 2016? Clinton’s slogan and (Tim Kaine’s) was “a progressive who can get things done.” http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/02/04/nh-democratic-town-hall-clinton-defends-progressive-credentials-11.cnn
Pritzker was also a big fundraiser for Clinton. I do agree, however, that there is no comparison with 2016 in terms of split Democratic support. Whoever wins the Democratic gubernatorial nomination will receive almost 100% enthusiastic support from Democrats without qualification.
