Fair enough, but he needs to be held to it. If he then comes back and challenge’s the IG’s jurisdiction over sexual harassment, that’s a different matter.

While I don’t excuse the Senator’s behavior, it appears he is the target of opprobrium for the far worse sins of many colleagues, past and present.

Oh? He’s not the only one? Weird. But it’s OK. No need to name those others. Just make everyone undergo training, and - presto! - problem solved, allowing us to get back to what *really* matters - winning elections and consolidating power.

Madigan/Cullerton need to take Silverstein into a back room and give him that speech Robert Duval gave in The Godfather about taking one for the team and they will lookout for his family

Silverstein should keep a low profile as he mulls what to do. Like a bad movie script he has options… he may be innocent so let the IG investigate; or he may use leverage on leadership as he can drag this thing out to the primary election. Last and perhaps most unlikely he may have dirt of others that will buy him immunity.

What have we come to that one cannot make a positive comment on the looks of the opposite sex? Sheesh. Granted, I didn’t read the original post, so I don’t know what else was mentioned. I also understand there’s a time and place for certain comments. All should note that I’m not raising this to argue with anyone or make light of the current situation. I, however, feel that referring to the comment as “sexist” is a bit much and does more harm than good; it cheapens the term. But,that’s just me. I’m open to other commenters’ opinions. YC

Ms. Rotheimer sure is right that they need to get this investigation overwith.
Perhaps Sen Silverstein should have stopped talking to the press when this matter became public. Earth to senator: you don’t have to talk to the press about anything, ever.

Orzo, my poor joke was not intended to be sexist, but obviously you and others will now unload on beastly men who are clearly sexist, in your intolerant opinion. Don’t turn into a humorless, intolerant scold, or if so presently, turn yourself around, as many sexist septuagenarians are trying to do presently from their learned (and wrong) behaviors.

Note yesterday’s CF story that the Legislative-appointed auditor general (Martino) who is under investigation by the Feds cited in an audit of the Legislative Inspector General’s office noncompliance on several issues but did not cite the fact that the LIG position was vacant for 2 years. The Legislative Audit Commission oversees/reviews the Auditor General’s audits. Does anyone see a conflict of interest problem?

Good response by the Senator in not responding except to the IG. Ms.Rotheimer should do the same, including not contacting Cap Fax. Let the IG handle it without public comments from either party.
