Speaker Madigan about to talk with reporters in Blue Room after a lengthy caucus about sexual harassment complaints.

Notice that no “unresolved” complaints are listed above. Also, lots of exclusions.
…Adding… Speaker Madigan said he sent the document to the other legislative leaders and constitutional officers and recommended that they do the same.
Reporters were told there are only a small number of unresolved complaints.
Madigan could not say when the above incidents occurred.
“What does this say about your office?” Madigan was asked about the volume of complaints. “Is there a culture within your office?” Madigan replied, “There’s no culture with me… (The report shows) we don’t tolerate this behavior.”
Madigan was asked if any new allegations had emerged against his leadership team or members of his caucus. “Not to my knowledge.”
According to Heather Wier-Vaught, the first allegation occurred in 2013, the last one on the list was “more recent.”
Speaker Madigan also reiterated that he would not resign.

For Madigan’s sake, I hope this is everything. He has to stop the death by a 1000 cuts, so releasing this makes sense only if it is comprehensive.

I Miss; The Governor’s own office has some of the same kinds of things. They have just not been put out there yet. I don’t believe he wants to throw those stones.

Rauner might not want to run a commercial on this topic in light of Mary Ann Ahern’s tweet. A GC is much closer to the head of the organization these folks.

The list says it’s not comprehensive. There are more categories excluded than included. This story ain’t going away anytime soon.

There is blood in the water and the sharks are circling. For someone who is supposedly a strategic savant, the way Madigan has handled this is downright incompetent. You have a press conference to share a memo that contains a handful of complaints that are not covered by exclusions in an attempt to reassure the public and the Democratic Party that you are on top of things? Sheesh!

The exclusions appear to cover situations where Madigan or his staff would have no authority to do anything about the situation. They aren’t human resource or personnel issues. They can’t punish an outside lobbyist for acting improper toward a member, or a member harassing another member.

I wonder how the victims feel about their confidential stories being sent out to everyone? Names are not mentioned but the victim still knows it is their story, This approach is wrong on so many levels.

There is an official position that Madigan should have had filled that is responsible for the investigation of these incidents. He and his office and private lawyers are not the ones that should be handling(or more likely controlling) these situations. It looks more and more like him using his powerful position to control these things instead of making sure they are properly investigated and proper actions are taking. What you have is the fox in charge of the hen house, not a good situation. The man has way to much power and influence over these harassment issues. Seems like it has taken him a long time to address the issue of sexual harassment with him knowing how extensive the problem has been even before cases were made public.

Because this is internal to the Office of the Speaker, I don’t believe this is at all reflective of “campaign culture.” There certainly is crossover between the staffs, but this report is not on campaign complaints.
