Anyone else see they dropped the news the day before thanksgiving about Chicago coming to an agreement and paying with the Whistleblowers in the City Treasurers office? Wonder what they we blowing their whistles about. Naturally they had to sign non-disclosure agreements.

A bit of a nice warmup is coming. At this time of the year, will gladly take it. May this winter be not too cold and snowy, unlike last winter with all the snow.

Did Fast Eddie report yesterday? Quick web search doesn’t indicate that he actually did? Last stories stated that yesterday was the date he was supposed to go to the gray bar hotel

I just renewed my license plates. It really bugs me that the state charges a variable processing fee for using credit cards/debit cards. How in the world is that not a flat fee of about 50 cents? I understand paying more for vanity plates. I even understand the reason the prices went up. But the processing fee seems to just be a slap in the face, especially today when few carry cash, and most do not use checks.
Rude I say.

The State is recouping what the credit card companies charge it. It could be done by raising the cost of license plates to everyone, but it is fairer to pass it on to those who choose to use credit cards.

“It could be done by raising the cost” IIRC, that’s not an option either because the cost of the plates is *the cost of the plates* and not “what we want to charge and someone might get a cut off the top in certain circumstances.”

If by go nowhere, you mean be used as campaign fodder to claim credentials among the disease spreading voting crowd, then yes.
I’ve been watching these go nowhere bills for awhile. They quite regularly show up in social media posts within 48 hours, in those same social media groups I was mentioning the other day. Usually posted by either the rep filing the bill or a campaign supporter.
There’s a weird ecosystem developing.

The fee is dictated by the contract with the credit card processing company.
I just went over to the IDPH Covid page. They are getting the cases caught up from the holiday weekend. Today’s numbers are not great at all.

NDA’s are illegal; all settlements with State and local government are considered public records under Illinois FOIA. I fought this argument with the State over DHS issues when they settled suits. Had to cite both the FOIA and Attorney General opinions to get the NDA language deleted from the settlement agreements.
