“As a teenager I worked at a factory just like this one,” Enyart says on camera. “As a commanding General of our National Guard I led young men and women who fought in our wars. And served in our communities.
Enyart continues: “I’m running for Congress because our country’s gotten off track. The middle class is paying more, while millionaires pay less.”
Enyart’s comment about millionaires is certainly an unspecified swipe at his opponent, Republican Jason Plummer, a lumber heir from O’Fallon, Ill. Plummer has mounted a serious campaign for the congressional seat, which hasn’t elected a Republican since just after World War II.

* Plummer meets with IYC Murphysboro workers: If elected, Plummer promised to work with state and local leaders to avoid the type of confusion more than 50 employees of IYC Murphysboro are currently in. The facility is one of several Southern Illinois facilities that could ultimately close due to budget concerns. The original shutdown date was Friday, but it has been postponed for the moment. “There’s no question that the state must make cuts to balance its budget, but the announced closures unfairly target Southern Illinois,” Plummer said.
* Enyart tells seniors he has the experience to be their congressman: “I know he didn’t change my mind,” said Mike Nelson, of Mascoutah, as he shuffled a deck of cards. “I’m going to vote for Jason Plummer. One of the main reasons is St. Clair County has been locked down too tight with Democrats. The one-party system doesn’t work. We need the diversity.”

What exactly is Plummer going to be hitting Enyart on? Seems like he’s a blank slate who could position himself well in the district.

How Enyart managed to be in the military for 30 years and never was even in a combat zone is puzzling especially since we had 3 wars and National Guard and reserve units were used extensively.

However, millionaires don’t pay less than non millionaires in taxes. “Less” used as he uses it here is deliberately misleading.

Cassiopeia - Plenty of lawyers who dedicate their career to military service aren’t placed in combat, not puzzling at all.

He led the charge during the Battle of Decatur when Clinton declared war against soy. The same battle where Quinn won his “Soy Boy” nick name. I think Kirk flew into battle in a hot air balloon to drop supplies to Enyart when he found himself short on Bic Flair pens and yellow legal notepads.

If those state employees in Murphysboro believe Jason Plummer is going to assist them in anything else except filing to oppose their unemployment benefits, they need to go back and look at his lite gov campaign. Plummer is a capitalist and represents only the 1%. period. Time to get some lipstick on this pig I guess.

…Enyart never saw combat….
This fact didn’t seem to bother you Republicans when George W. Bush was keeping the skies over Alabama safe while John Kerry was, you know, actually fighting in Vietnam. According to Republicans at the time, it shouldn’t have mattered - just that W. served. period.
But, hey, he’s a Democratic candidate - so of course that should be the main points of this ad.
Maybe in the your next post you can point out the scene with the sandbags, since I’m sure Bill Enyart didn’t actually handle the sandbags himself. He was probably sitting at his desk, planning his future socialist takeover of southern illinois, right?

As a currently serving Illinois Guardsman with 2 overseas tours, am I allowed to object to our photos being used in campaign commercials? We are ordered to locations (we can’t refuse) and put our lives at risk to perform hair raising missions. We can’t refuse to have our pictures taken.
Should these politicians (General Officers) be allowed to use images of us for their political benefit?

C’mon…he lead an infantry battalion for 3 months back in the ’80s…there might have been some Vietnam vets in there.
Although never having left Illinois, I wouldn’t exactly call this guy a General Patton…

Maybe I don’t know that much about the military, but I kind of assumed they keep generals out of combat, at least for the last sixty years?

He said working families are paying more, while millionaires are paying less.
Its pretty clear from the way he used it that he meant working families are paying more in taxes than they used to, while millionaires are paying less then they used to.
As a percent of income, I believe he is correct.
