Question of the day

Posted in:

* As noted below, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tio Hardiman and his running mate filed nominating petitions today. Hardiman has contributed a few thousand dollars to his own campaign, but is still filing reports on paper.

* He has a website which lays out his “20/20″ economic development plan

Tio Hardiman’s 20/20 Plan for Job Creation in Illinois has three core components.

Eliminate the Head Tax in Illinois to Create more Jobs

As Governor, I plan to eliminate the Head Tax in Illinois which has caused many corporations to consider doing business in another state. Eliminating the Head Tax will help encourage economic development in Illinois. Revisions to the Illinois Tax Code will be required to entice businesses to stay in Illinois and cause others to return. I am opposed to balancing the problems of the state on the backs of working class people and corporations doing business in Illinois.

Recruiting Investors

As Governor, I would organize strategy sessions with select billionaires to help strategize on how to boost the economy. He will also use this opportunity to help small and mid-size businesses reach their fullest potential.

Reducing the Deficit and Reforming the Pension System

Tio Hardiman has a plan to help reform the Illinois pension system and reduce the state deficit. He would propose a special tax on business transactions executed at the Chicago Board of Trade and a special set aside Lottery that goes directly into a Pension Fund which cannot be liberated by the General Assembly other than for pension purposes only.

* He has a new Internet video

* From the Twitters

  3. “people has spoken”?

    But still, I’m for choice—left, right, whatever.

    The teachers unions were pushing that Metaire guy to run, but I guess it didn’t happen.

    I guess they figured a slogan of “Raise My Taxes, Raise My Taxes, Raise My Taxes NOW” would be a hard sell. lol

  10. “set aside Lottery that goes directly into a Pension Fund”

    As I remember it, back in 1985 the GA earmarked profits from the lottery to go to the Common School Fund to fund education. I wonder if changing the law to setting aside the lottery profits to fund pensions will be as ’successful’ as setting them aside to fund education has been?

  14. Tio Hardiman has some interesting ideas but…. one idea is never going to happen. Hardiman wants a CBOT transactions tax ,two problems here: 1) the state legislature would have to approve it. 2) The CME/CBOT will shut the floors and move the server out of state. They will never get that tax : ever. The CME has already had extensive talks about moving to Texas before Madigan gave them a special tax deals. Most trades now are done on computer , so the server can be anywhere but Illinois.

    Comment by Steve Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 2:24 pm

  15. CME/CBOT already charges $8-95 per transaction to the investors.

    Taxing this service is not a particularly radical move.

    If CME/CBOT increased these fees to $10-97 it would be a two paragraph article in Crain’s.

  17. “People has spoken”

    Change = good
    Grammar = bad

    Comment by KGB Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 3:18 pm

  18. Carl:

    A special new tax would be because they can move the server out of state. Why do they need to be in downtown Chicago if most trades now are done on computer????

    Comment by Steve Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 3:27 pm

  19. People has spoken!

    They elected Junior.

    They elected Marion Barry the crack smoker.

    Why not Tio… after all, it was just a little “misunderstanding” with the missus.

    Comment by John Boch Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 3:31 pm

  20. I would think that ’select billionaires’ is somewhat redundant.

    Comment by Tommydanger Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 3:35 pm

  21. I’m Tim Hardiman. I am not Pat Quinn. If I do 30% in the Democratic primary send the Xlax to the Quinn campaign.

  28. I can see why this dude would want to eliminate the head tax. Must cost him a fortune.

    On the other hand, he could rent that forehead for outdoor advertising.n

  29. Wordslinger, you are very bad.
    I didn’t know we had a head tax in Illinois.

    Comment by nearsighted Monday, Nov 25, 13 @ 9:58 pm

  30. The “Has” could be a typo, I will give him that. But his lack of overall knowledge in politics is clear. Next, his lack of funding and state support makes me question why did he even file?

    His intentions could be good, but with so much against him he is really making a fool of himself.

    Comment by Wiseword Tuesday, Nov 26, 13 @ 6:16 am

  31. Wiseword, Tio probably has political aspirations and is using this run as a way to gain name recognition for some more local and future run. The answer can probably be found in Proviso Township.

    Comment by Pleading the Fifth Tuesday, Nov 26, 13 @ 10:17 am

  33. @ I couldnt find anything on the Proviso Township accept that his wife is the owner and he isn’t. Which goes along with the comments she made in the Chicago Sun-times.

    Alison Hardiman said: “I had to go to the police department and report it. I wanted him out of my house, his daughter, and the dogs. Everybody. I just wanted it over.”
