· “The state Department of Human Services is not doing enough to verify that low-income residents who receive federal grants deserve them, an audit released Thursday said.”

· “This month’s Diageo/Hotline poll should serve as a small splash of cold water on “Speaker” Pelosi and “Majority Leader” Reid. But just a splash. The upshot: our snapshot of likely voters suggests that, nationwide, Republicans may be as ginned up as Democrats. Or both Dems and Republicans may be equally motivated to vote — even if that level of motivation is low. That said, control of Congress won’t be decided by the votes of a majority of likely voters in the country. It’ll be decided by voters in about a dozen states across several dozen congressional districts.”

· “But if you are betting on the generic ballot to predict control of the House, even when it looks awfully strong for Democrats, you might want to think again. The relationship has weakened and the uncertainty is huge.”

· UPDATE: This is fascinating.

Bill Tancer’s latest post about Hitwise having advance indications of yesterday’s announcement of a drop in July home sales is fascinating. In short, Bill points out that the National Association of Realtors require 3-4 weeks to put their analysis together, so, even though September’s almost upon us, we’re just now hearing that home sales in July fell.

Except Hitwise saw this coming. The web stats and competitive intelligence company saw a drop in July in searches for terms relating to home sales, and has seen a similar pick-up in August. So Bill’s not only saying they saw this coming, he’s predicting that August’s numbers will pick up.

  1. The story on Human Services and grants verification - typical snarky anti-Blagojevich column by AP’s John O’Connor. If you go to the Auditor General’s website - http://www.state.il.us/auditor - the main summary of the audit was the inability of the Comptroller’s Office to produce financial statements in a timely fashion - 3 findings in all. Granted, there are numerous findings about individual agencies, but they are using IOC’s system - the one purchased by Loleta Didrickson for Y2K after her budget was gutted by Pate and Daniels at the behest of George Ryan (a very long story for another day). And the audit findings existed under Ryan, also. Read the summary - 3 findings, all about IOC. Did O’Connor read it, one wonders? Of course, this is typical for him - he did the same covering the public schools in Springfield when he was the State Journal Register’s education reporter.

  2. What? Nothing on the letter in today’s trib?

  3. IVI was turned off by Peraica’s views on abortion. We all know that the Cook county board president is launching ground for anyone who wants to sit on the Supreme Court. Just look at it’s history…Ginsburg held the post from Kennedy 1980-83, 83-85, Clarence THomas 85-87, John Roberts 93-99, Alito 99-2004. The hostory is there. I support what IVO did in supoporting idiocy and corruption!

  5. The IVI-IPO endorsed Todd Stroger because Tony Peraica is a clown. Deet deet deedle leedle deet deet deet deet.

  6. It’s time for someone to expose the scam that is the IVI-IPO (Independent Voters of Illinois). They have one asset–their name, which gives the impression to voters that a candidate is backed by some objective, large group of “independents.”

In reality, the board is Far Left, government employees are the principal members, and politicians and interest groups buy memberships by the bucketload leading up to endorsements sessions–essentially rigging it.

The endorsement of Todd Stroger illustrates the true nature of the organization.

So the next time you see a piece of mail or brochure touting an endorsement by the Independent Voters of Illinois, don’t think it has anything to do with political independence.

  7. “Still anon,” the letter was in the Sun-Times, and the answer to your question is “No.” She had her say and I’m more than willing to give her that say without rebuttal here.

  8. “Notice how this story didn’t come out until after his Bridgeport fundraiser? “Sorich talks to grand jury.”

    Hey Rich,

Okay I noticed. So what does it mean? Did they purposly not release this so he would have a more successful fundraiser? Did the feds want to see who showed up? Who released this info? Inquiring minds need to know.

  9. The IVI-IPO has finally and publicly been taken over. Their myopic, pathetic board allows corrupt machine hacks to have their way under the guise of “progressive” issues.

Bye-bye Chicago independents. Your endorsements are officially meaningless.

Comment by Phocion Friday, Aug 25, 06 @ 11:31 am

  10. The IVI-IPO was a democrat alternative to the machine. They are composed of “independent” Democrats, not independents.

Notice they endorse all democrats. They are a sad shell of what they were 20 years ago. In fact, they are now basically a joke.

Even a blind mute could see that the Toddler is not qualified and Peraica has a very strong history of reform.

I can see why no one goes to this organization any more.

  11. John Lee:

Having known Perica for several years I can assure you this man is no clown.
