The most telling thing about both Dunkin and McCann is that I never heard one of their colleagues in their own caucuses come to their defense.

Not once.

Legislators from Dunkin’s and McCann’s respective caucuses stayed silent not out of fear of angering their party bosses, but because they genuinely don’t like or respect either man. Scott is absolutely correct.

We ended up with a massive, multi million dollar proxy war centered around two of the most flawed legislators at the Statehouse.

And yet, McCann won and Dunkin lost, even though McCann was outspent 3-1. Plus, in both cases the pro-Rauner candidate lost. Gee, Scott, what do you make of that?

Hey man — so long as McCann votes for the AFSCME override, he’s ok in my book. Dunkin won’t — but he’s done. Stick a fork in Dunkin.

In McCann’s case, it’s a number of things. He broke his word on a specific leadership vote (not the union arbitration one) without telling the GOP leader first and it’s because he isn’t necessarily “one of the boys”.

The funny thing is, if the mileage thing is really bad, Benton could wind up in that Senate seat before November. And Dunkin can stay in his House seat until January. So even though the voters sent a strong message last week, nothing is going to change overnight, if at all.

I hope that’s true RNUG. But if he’s broken any laws with regard to the mileage thing, all bets are off.

Same goes for Mautino. I don’t believe either one did anything to warrant criminal charges, but if they did, then the stuff is going to rightfully hit the fan.

Word, yes they did. It raised my poor opinion of them a smidgen for the courage to do the endorsement. However, they have otherwise been quite compliant in appointing Rauner puppets for other seats. Given Rich’s recent revelation that Sam was viewed as “a god” in the district, I might cynically view the endorsement as a bandwagon move to try and assuage some of the anger from GOP state workers.

Sen. McCann would have been targeted regardless of his vote on the AFSCME strike bill. Two years ago he considered running as a spoiler in the governor’s race and then ham handedly botched a hit on his own leadership. He’s been in the penalty box ever since. The vote with AFSCME was a hail mary to get the unions to save him from himself. Elevating it to a proxy circus made it an expensive side show but didn’t really do much to change the underlying issues at hand.

The AFSCME vote was nothing more than him selling his political soul to save his political life. He had to make a very public show of allegiance to get a cut of union members paychecks to save his neck.

Norseman, it’s almost a slam dunk that it’s struck down. There’s no opportunity to say “No thanks, I’d prefer that the existing contract remain unchanged.”, and since there isn’t that option, it’s a unilateral change to a contract without the opportunity to accept/reject the proposed change, and therefore invalid.

For me?

This is the Raunerite Referendum framing.

It doesn’t matter who candidates are…

Good. Bad. Awful. Unlikeable. Beloved. Respected. Admired.

The voters are going to be asked.

“Are you with the Rauner candidate, or not?”

Labor, Students, Homeowners, Business Owners, Seniors, Farmers, “She-Caw-Go”, “Downstate” (Anywhere outside “She-Caw-Go)…

“Are you with the Rauner candidate or not?”

It’s the winning framing, and further, if Trunp is the nominee, with Rauner’s “support”…

The proxy battle against or for a governor will be at play.

It will be at play in Munger-Mendoza, unless Munger decides, “right here, right now” that being the Comptroller is the winning strategy and continues to be more governmental and far less political in her visibility.

I think Munger still wins, but… it will be up her Crew to move as far away from Rauner as an arm-length can take her.

Dunkin and McCann are far less likeable. That’s to Munger’s Advantage, and she’s doing “all the right things”.

Can Rauner just stop being an anchor, that will be the question.
