Another hostage calls it quits

Rockford police officers are busy enough without adding baby-sitting to their duties, but that’s what will happen because one more valuable program to help troubled youths is disappearing thanks to the state of Illinois budget impasse.

Youth Services Network has been providing vital support for young people, but it is running out of money. The agency had to drop its Redeploy Illinois program in October because the state wasn’t paying. Its youth shelter services have been limited by the state’s budget woes. Last week, the agency suspended its Comprehensive Community Based Youth Services. On Friday, the 24-hour crisis line will be shut off.

It’s become almost a daily occurrence: an agency that does business with the state of Illinois is forced to cut service for people who most need help.

Why should you care? That teenager who could have received help from Youth Services Network might wind up stealing from you — or worse. A police officer might be tied up dealing with a kid across town and won’t be able to respond to your problem as quickly. There will be an effect on the entire community.

A couple of Friday’s ago I went to have lunch at at local pub in north central Illinois. Normally, it is pretty quiet, but that day business was booming. A large party of women were there and as I listen to them it became apparent that they were social service workers who had lost their jobs because of the lack of a budget. I didn’t find out which agency, but as a group they were both angry and sad.

I keep saying, according to Illinois CEO Rauner its cheaper to house the kids in prison at $18-30/k a year, per person.

Those pathetic, weak agencies in the small towns of central and southern IL should just die. Their people and towns will be better serve by big, multi-state corporations. /snark, and something I truly can’t believe I haven’t heard any Republicans oppose yet.

lets face it Rauner didnt make millions neglecting nursing home resdents or raising the price of needed medication because he has a conscious or concern for humanity. you vote for a robber baron, tou get a rober barons morals.

Rauner himself is assigning a value to peoples’ lives. Some, in his value system, don’t rank at all and aren’t worth anything.
