Maybe this could help?

Posted in:

* We all know that Gov. Rauner doesn’t much care for wearing ties…

* But could that preference actually be harming his beloved Turnaround Agenda?

Eighth-grade boys were shown how to tie ties on Wednesday at Learn 8 Middle School, in East Garfield Park as a part of the ‘Tied to Greatness’ program.

‘Tied to Greatness’ is a national nonprofit organization, dedicated to impacting the image and esteem of inner city males through affirmation, instruction and long-term mentorship connections. […]

“When we have data and research that shows that when our eighth grade boys wore the ties it sets them aside as leaders,” said David Lewis, Learn 8 Principal. “There is a decrease in referrals, decrease incidents with them, and made them feel special.”

“It felt good,” said Miles Burnett, 8th grader at Learn 8. “I means that I will be able to do stuff when I get older. I will be able to tie a tie and look right in a business, for when I have an interview.”

Might be worth a try. Just sayin…

  3. There is a school of thought out there that says when companies went “business casual”, they went “effort casual” at the same time. Could well be something to this.

  4. Ah, the “Woody’s Roundup” costume.

(Bullseye, the stuffed horse, *not included)

    To the Post,

When Eight-Graders understand better than a governor what s tie means in life…

Rauner’s purposeful non-tie is mocking the “some class”…

“I don’t need to show you respect” …

… That’s what the “Woody’s Roundup” costume screams, and Rauner laughs at us, the unwashed.

  5. When you are uber wealthy, the only people you have to impress are those you are begging for money. Everyone else is beneath you in the social order.

  6. When I first spotted that pic, I thought the Governor was wearing my orange Safety Guard belt from middle school, when I’d help classmates and little old ladies across the street.

I’m still peeved they never issued me a cowboy hat for the job.

  11. Perhaps the next time Learn 8 middle school has a day they demonstrate how to tie a tie they can invite Bruce. Bruce can teach the boys how to tie a tie and they can show him what impact his lack of support of social programs in the state have done to them.

  13. I hate ties and avoid them if at all possible. I’m also a failure, so maybe there is a connection.

  14. I think he should stick to Gubernatorial sashes as pictured, like proper nobility or if he’s Generalisimo.

I do understand the message he’s trying to send while wearing the Clooney Casual style, but I do think the unwillingness to wear a tie while serving as Governor of Illinois when compared to running a hedge fund shows he clearly thinks running the affairs of 12 million people isn’t a very serious en devour in comparison.

  16. His failure to wear ties on a regular basis would be more understandable if he were 25 years younger and had grown up in a world of business casual. At his age, he would have been used to a business world of suits and ties. My husband, who hates ties, will always wear them when he is dealing with the public or clients or representing his firm. He considers it a sign of respect for the audience and for his business. It also tends to convey more of a sense of authority.

  19. The Governor is tryin’ to show that even though he’s a billionaire, he’s just a regular feller! He rides the land rightin’ wrongs and facin’ off against the black-hatted Madigan the Kid and the posses he controls. He is a fabulous individual!

Comment by Buster Crab Wednesday, Sep 21, 16 @ 3:56 pm

  20. Sashes are so much more practical.

You can hang your tri-corder from them. Or your sword. Or your Thermos full of strawberry milkshake. Or a sprightly Merlot. Or a Tupperware full of deep-dish pizza.

And cowboy hats? They prove you’re a regular pard, like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Hedley Lamar.

So much more fun dressin’ up than governin’!

  24. I quit wearing ties the day I retired. Maybe the real message here is Mr. Rauner should be retired! Lack of a tie is, however, 578th in the list of reasons he should be retired. . . .
