Roskam is back to supporting Trump… for now

Posted in:

* Congressman Peter Roskam was for Donald Trump last week, then flipped to undecided this week and now he’s back to being for the guy

“I think we would get a better result in terms of tax reform, regulatory reform and Obamacare repeal and replacement with Donald Trump,” Roskam said. “That said, he’s got some work to do, in terms of communicating and so forth. But I think we’d be better off with him than with her.”

Roskam also noted his reservations about Hillary Clinton’s integrity.

Both parties are in real turmoil right now,” Roskam said. “I’ve come to the conclusion that Hillary Clinton is unworthy of the office, and that’s a very harsh thing to say.”

That story was posted yesterday afternoon at 5:25 pm.

* At 12:50 am today, the Tribune posted this story, so maybe Roskam will flip back again

Five women accused Donald Trump of groping or kissing them without their consent in news reports published Wednesday, just days after the Republican presidential nominee insisted in a debate that he had never engaged in such behavior.

One of the women alleges that Trump grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hand up her skirt during a flight more than three decades ago, the New York Times reported. Another says he kissed her on the mouth outside an elevator in 2005, according to the same report. A third woman says Trump groped her rear end at his Mar-a-Lago resort 13 years ago, the Palm Beach Post reported. The fourth, then a People magazine reporter, says Trump kissed her without her consent when the two were alone in 2005 right before an interview she was about to conduct with Trump and his wife. The fifth, Miss Washington 2013, said in a Facebook post that Trump groped her and invited her to his hotel room.

Not to mention this, this and this.

They’re heroes willing to sacrifice mothers, wives and daughters on the altar of tax cuts.

  3. I understand that 6 is the wealthiest and probably on e of the most educated CDs in Illinois. I also understand that it has been gerrymandered to elect a Republican. However, is GOP support so soft here (I live in the district) that Roskam can’t choose one way or the other.

  4. Perhaps Roskam could explain and expand as how he just came to his conclusion that Clinton is “unworthy of the office” while Trump is worthy of it.

Let’s see the work product that goes into reaching that conclusion.

  5. Flip-floppin’ like a fish on a pier.

The Trump scandals really help to expose right wing hypocrisy about religion and “family values.” I heard one Trump voter on TV the other day ranting and raving and saying something like Trump is a vessel of God.

As the Grandson of Man, I can tell you with certainty that these people do not represent the views of my Father or Grandfather. Believe me.

  6. Things like this are why Roskam was not elevated into Paul Ryan’s upper inner leadership circle.

  7. Be careful driving by Roskam’s office today as his head is probably hanging out the window checking the wind.

  8. It IS pretty sickening, in this particular case, but he’s not alone in being a hypocrite in this activity. I really want all the Roskams of the world to explain to me how Hillary is unworthy/unfit to serve while Trump is just fine without their heads exploding.

  9. Embarrassing. Sometimes silence is golden.

  10. It is sad to witness the public death of the national GOP as a party of “values” and “morality”. Peter Roskam is simply helping to write the epitaph.

  12. Roskam should always be credited with prioritizing huge tax cuts for rich people over the right of women and girls to be free from sexual assault. Brave and principled leadership!

  14. Mr. Roskam’s release should have read as follows:

“Congressman Roskam’s vote - like everyone else’s - is private and should be respected as such. He will do his best to work with whomever is elected President of the United States.”

Comment by Team Sleep Thursday, Oct 13, 16 @ 10:45 am

  15. Roskam beleived the women making accusations against Bill Clinton. How can he assume all the women accusing Trump are liars?

During the Clinton administration, evangelicals like Roskam insisted that morality, character and integrity were needed in the White House. Now not so much.

  16. I just saw a comment from pundit Ezra Klein:

Reminder: We’re expecting that IT’S STILL TOO EARLY for the Clinton campaign to release it’s best opposition research.

  18. Suburban GOP turnout is going to be the number to watch.

When you’ve got suburban Republicans like Kirk and Dold saying they can’t vote for Trump or Clinton, the question becomes how many regular suburban GOP voters feel the same way and just stay home.

Who shows up at a polling place to skip the presidential race to vote for down-ballot contests? I’d imagine that universe is minuscule.

Great. You mentioned Jello, my brain went straight to Cosby, remembered we’re talking about T Rump’s behavior, and I choked on my lunch. I hope you’re happy. lol

I’d imagine that universe is less miniscule than it was in 2012.

  24. So the site ate the rest of my post, which is:

With such analytical skills, how is he not Speaker already?!

Although, perhaps it’s true as Democrats might be laughing too hard to get any office work done…

  25. I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more media play regarding Trump needlessly entering dressing rooms for teenage girls. That is disgusting, along with the rest of it.

  26. Too bad Roskam doesn’t have a viable opponent in November. He deserves to lose… but unfortunately there is no chance of that. Anyone not abandoning Trump at this point doesn’t know this country and what it stands for at all. The narcissistic frat boy who never grew up deserves no support from anyone who truly cares about this nation.
