  8. congrats Cubs fans. but, on which date did the Cubs win the World Series? the White Sox won two games on Oct. 26, 2005 to finish it. Your celebration has a different issue. fun.

  9. Rich, thanks for the video.

Lots of people in my mind, lots of reminiscing of those not able to see what I saw last night, including Erine, Harry, and Ron.

  13. Thank you Rich - very appropriate post to start the day.

As someone who got to know Steve slightly many years ago, I found myself thinking of him and these lyrics many times last night.

  15. Finally, every professional sports team in Chicago has won at least 1 championship title since 1985.

    Congratulations

  22. The managerial maneuvers almost backfired, but the Cubs players rallied again. Hat tip to the Indians for putting up a valiant fight also despite a depleted pitching staff. What a finale for David Ross.

Time for the owners of the Billy Goat Tavern to stop milking a blatantly self-serving publicity stunt and to update their web page! Hooray!

  26. Thanks OW. Raised the roof just a few times last night:) Had an really good (was going to say bad, but the brain takes second after the heart today) case of “Go Cubs Go” earworm this morning!

  27. Waited a long time for this moment. The Cleveland Indians deserve their own round of applause for giving the Cubs and their fans the workout of a lifetime. Cleveland made Chicago work for it and chests were clutched and cries of anguish heard across the land. It made the series all the better for the real competition that occurred in every game. Hard fought, hard won. Well done to both teams.

Comment by Aldyth Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 9:51 am

  28. Man, that’s a great song. Thanks for sharing.

All the memories come flooding back, so many of them. I remember as a yoot, back in the day, going to Jewel grocery store to get head-shot photos of Cubs players. Forgotten names like Bill Bonham and Ray Burris. More famous names like Rick Monday, Jose Cardenal and of course, the immortal Ron Santo.

  29. It was like watching your ex give birth.

Architect who ended the droughts in Boston and the North Side — straight to Cooperstown.

  31. Cub fans, “fatigued” no more!

    ENJOY!

Comment by WhoKnew Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 10:15 am

  32. @Anon221, Happy Birthday! I feel certain the East Coast media (as a Sox fan, ESPN is hugely unpopular now) will claim the next date and I’m wondering what MLB says. but perhaps in the tradition of Ernie, Let’s have 2 dates!

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 10:18 am

  33. Well, about that win. I had some cholesterol shake loose in the bottom of the seventh when the Indians tied it up. I kept thinking that if the stopper wasn’t stopping them then just maybe they ought to get him off the mound. Then the rain-delay and the extra-inning game, just like the extra-long drought was finally over.

Now, on to some goat stew from the acclaimed Birrieria Zaragoza on the south side, and a conversation with some of my southside friends while I cement that loose cholesterol back in place.

Comment by PublicServant Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 10:27 am

  34. Amalia- Thanks:) I think you’re probably right on the two dates. WaPo is writing Thursday, Sun-Time Wednesday. I’m sticking to Dave McKinney’s tweet of remembering where you were at 11:47 pm on Nov. 2, 2016!

you can see newspapers from all over the country and world and there are some very fun headlines and photos which Cub fans will treasure. My personal favorite is a Sandusky, Ohio paper with “Indian Bummer.” I think it’s the plain dealer that has an awesome photo of Napoli’s bat shattering. fun stuff.

  36. If the parade is held on Monday, voter turnout in Illinois could take a hit on Tuesday with fatigued parade “go-ers” and their travel arrangements.

  37. It was the Sandusky Register, and that photo is awesome!

  38. Congratulations to the Cub nation! As a Sox fan, I tip my proverbial hat to you and your awesome front office, manager and team.

This is a great, great Goodman song, much better than “Go Cubs Go” IMO.

Also, Bill Murray never, ever gets old. I remember watching him substitute for Harry early in the 1987 season (I blew off my classes to watch) and heard Murray say, “God, I hate San Diego. Every time I’m there, I try to litter.”

Comment by Rod Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:19 pm

  42. So this is what winning feels like.

Worth the wait I think, for this one. Hope we never have to wait that long again to feel this good.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:19 pm

  43. 47th, if you have to wait that long again you won’t feel a thing.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:20 pm

  44. Rich, after about the fifth inning, I was feeling anything last night either.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:21 pm

  45. OW- Yep. Loving the reset!!!

    Comment by Anon221 Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:41 pm

  46. - Anon221 -

    That reset is everything.

Those I was thinking about, those who did t see this day, many of them, we talked about that “reset”… and getting “all zeroes”… and what it would’ve meant to them.

The “W” is great, the “Go Cubs Go” is wonderful, but with all who missed this day, the “reset” is everything… at least to me.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:04 pm

  47. I’ve never gotten the C part in AC as “whelps” just never positively conveyed the team.

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:19 pm

  48. ==Nobody could have written a better script to end your WS drought.==

Actually, many Cub fans I know would have vastly preferred a script that did not entail Chapman blowing the lead. It’s good and lucky that the Cubs were somehow able to right the ship in time to get the long coveted W.

Comment by Responsa Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:37 pm

  49. OW- I like to think that all those “Bleacher Bums” in the Skybox are joining in and toasting those new numbers :)

    Comment by Anon221 Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:52 pm

  50. - Anon221 -

    Yeah, lol.

There has been such a wide array of reading “AC” over the years it’s been up there.

The stigma, some used it as a punchline, some saw it as a real measure of the frustration, I even had one or two who passed that saw it as motivation to “keep believing”.

It’s probably the single most symbol of the Cubx futility and Cubs hope, even to the same people in the same breath.

Those with the “best seats” above must’ve taken such unabridged glee when that “108″ fell off the end of the “AC”

For me it’s about equal (not quite, lol) to the marquee saying “World Champions”

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:58 pm

  51. Congrats to the World Champion Cubs! It was good to see you hit Indians pitching like you did the Cardinals this past season.

Comment by Slippin' Jimmy Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 2:30 pm

  52. Will be headed out to the cemetery this weekend to lay a few Cubs championship hats on a few champions’ head stones. Maybe crack open a Hamms.

==Actually, many Cub fans I know would have vastly preferred a script that did not entail Chapman blowing the lead. It’s good and lucky that the Cubs were somehow able to right the ship in time to get the long coveted W.==

I agree, I’m quite sure most Cub fans would have preferred Chapman doing his usual thing. However, where is the fun in predictability? The drama created AND the Cubs being able to win it in extra(!) innings in a game 7 situation: now that makes for an even greater memory.

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 7:02 pm

  54. Anonymous @ 7:02 pm was me.

    Comment by Anti-m Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 7:02 pm

  55. Chicago has big problems, but not with winning championships. Beginning with the Bears Super Bowl championship in 1986, we’re 12-1 in championship series. Bleepin’ amazing.
