Rush calls Madigan and Rauner “despots,” compares them to King Kong and Godzilla

Posted in:

* Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush

Rush, a Chicago Democrat, made his comments during a news conference Thursday about the hardships that social-service agencies and low-income people are suffering as state government’s unpaid bills pile up.

The state is $11 billion in arrears for all bills, Rush said.

“While these two despots are engaged in war, I am reminded of a movie I used to see called Godzilla vs. King Kong,” Rush said in a prepared statement. “There were two giant monsters fighting for power and destroying the city of Tokyo as a result of it. They were wiping out homes and businesses and wreaking havoc on the people of the city.

“Madigan and Rauner are like King Kong and Godzilla and they are destroying Illinois.”

  2. I believe that Kong and Godzilla battled on Mt. Fiji, not in Tokyo.

Lots of other Godzilla battles in Tokyo. Perhaps he meant to compare Madigan to Mothra?

  4. I’m no fan of Rush’s, but that’s a pretty good piece of messaging for the Dem candidate for Guv in ‘18.

  5. Wow is wrong. Danny Davis is far less productive.

But in any case, is he going to do anything? Back a challenger? Or just stay on the sidelines and complain? So far, I have yet to see him take any role.

  8. I think a better comparison would be Rauner as King Gidorah, the three faced monster from outer space that was soundly defeated by a coalition of earth monsters.

  9. With the reboots of both, I wonder if this is a reference to Skull Island…

    Unlikely…

  10. It’s poignant. But, if he wants to run again…he better get the right number of signatures in the right district. King Kong references have consequences.

  11. I always got King Kong and Godzilla mixed up. Which one wears his pants with the waistline at his armpits and which one wears his pants too long and baggy?

  15. FWIW, Kong was definitely alive at the end of that flick, while it was ambiguous as to whether Godzilla drowned or not.

But, many Godzilla sequels later, it was clear he survived.

  16. Rush is an original thinker or was he merely watching “Godzilla” on Svengoolie this month?

  17. Hi! My name is Congressman Rush. We at the federal govt are adamant about spending within our budger. You never see us federallies spending money we dont have. Pay attention to Washington. We know how to bring people up out of poverty. By the way, we need a few more people to get on board if we our going to get our food assistance program up to that 51,000,000 person mark.

  18. Rush shoulda went with a TransFormers example for the “kids” out there.

It’s a great way to get some pub, and using Godzilla - King Kong example will do that.

    So, Congressman, “now what?”?
