Competing budget clocks

Posted in:

* The Southern Illinoisan has been posting a count-up clock at the top of some of its stories. Here’s a screen capture from this morning

* And here’s a Friday morning screen cap from a site called WhereIsRaunerBudget.com

That one looks like it started on the day Rauner was sworn in.

  1. I like them both, but the second one is better. I would hope some of the Chicago papers would pick up the count too.

  2. What happens first? These budget clocks hit zero or the doomsday clock hits zero?

  3. Second clock is still off. It’s not like he presented a budget BEFORE he was sworn in, either. So, how many days since he’s presented a balanced budget? All of ‘em.

  4. Either way it’s a hell of a lot of days without a budget.

  5. Disgraceful no matter how many HUNDREDS of days. But: It Is IL.

  6. Meh. How many days/years will be on the clock that starts with the date of the last balanced budget Madigan passed out of his chamber?

  7. ===How many days/years will be on the clock that starts with the date of the last balanced budget Madigan passed out of his chamber?===

So you’re conceding Rauner hasn’t gotten to work to get a budget. Got it. Thanks.

    To the Post,

The second clock is ridiculous. You “clock” this at the moment Rauner gave a budget address.

The lazily accurate statement is that..

“Gov. Rauner has yet to formulate, present, and pass a budgetary blueprint that then becomes the document to weigh and measure what Governor Rauner sees as a working Illinois government.”

The rest? It’s just the ticking away of the state’s future.

  8. There both right one is budget forthcoming and the other is end of Quinn’s budget

Comment by Rabid Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:43 pm

  9. Obviously both clocks should be added to the BossMadigan.com website list.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:27 pm

  10. Rauner never submitted any details about his “budget” that fixed everything before his election and the media let him get away with it.

The second clock is accurate and very disturbing.

  11. About time , instead of this boss Madigan stuff why not add a do your job governor site

Comment by Austinman Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:36 pm

  12. - 703 days until Inauguration Day in Illinois; or
    - 1 year, 11 months, 4 days; or
    - 100 weeks and 3 days; or
    - 16,872 hours; or
    - 1,012,320 minutes; or
    - 60,739,200 seconds.

    Keep doing nothing Bruce…tick tock…tick tock…!

  13. OW,

I think the second clock counts from when Rauner was sworn in. But to somebody else’s point, he’s been disingenuous about the budget throughout the campaign so maybe the clock should just be endless…

Comment by Chicago Cynic Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:51 pm

  14. - Chicago Cynic -

    Apologies. Two different thoughts…

===The second clock is ridiculous. You “clock” this at the moment Rauner gave a budget address.===

“The second clock is ridiculous” - clocking from inauguration. It’s disingenuous.

“You “clock” this at the moment Rauner gave a budget address.”

    That’s an opinion, nothing more.

    With respect.

  15. It’s nice cool to see a debt clock like this, counting the deficit’s growth since Rauner took office, and continuing to today, with what is it, $11 million deeper in the hole every day we go without a budget?

    Yeah. That’d be cool.

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 3:17 pm

  16. =That’s an opinion, nothing more.=
    agree.
Or everyone gets a clock from inauguration day until budget address. Wouldn’t make sense.
