Governor Bruce Rauner today announced that Department of Labor Director Hugo Chaviano will be transitioning out of state government.
Governor Rauner has designated Anna Hui as the Acting Director of the Department of Labor. Hui is the current Assistant Director of the Department of Labor. Hui’s experience at the state and U.S. Department of Labor make her an excellent choice to lead the department.

Gov. Eric Greitens has tapped Anna Hui, acting director of the Illinois Department of Labor, to head Missouri’s labor department.
Calling her a “fearless change agent” in an announcement Thursday, Greitens also said Hui’s appointment marks the first time in Missouri history that an Asian-American has served in a governor’s cabinet.
“We are honored to have her join us to shake up Jefferson City and bring some much needed reforms to the Missouri Department of Labor,” Greitens said in a statement. […]
Hui also served under two other Republican governors in Illinois – as special assistant to the governor for Asian-American affairs under Gov. Jim Edgar, and as a senior member of Gov. George Ryan’s Washington, D.C. policy team.
Organized labor was gearing up for a state Senate confirmation battle against Hui, which may have played into this.

I guess if Organized Labor here can cause such a move to be set in motion, wonder how important Lanor could be in defeating Rauner at the ballot box?
The Decatur PowerPoint made perfectly clear Rauner’s Labor position.
Labor would be wise to keep reminding itself if that.

I’m sick of hearing Republicans’ overuse of terms like “shake up” and “reforms”. What makes them even more tiring is they’ve yet to demonstrate meaningful ROI for any of it.

Does “transitioning out of state government” require hormone treatments and surgery? Is it covered under state medical plans?
Does that dishonest nonsense phrase replace the old “resigned to pursue other opportunities” as the standard obfuscation for “fired?”
When you see abuse of the language like that, be aware that the puddle forming around your feet ain’t rain.

I work towards organizing and efficacy.
Every day
I can say though that if my social media feeds are any indication, we are gaining momentum and velocity.
Far more coordination is immediately present for direct action and planning. Attendance and participation are up across the board. We are also actively ramping up the social media penetration. It’s stunning how often anti Rauner memes are shared and retweeted.

Rauner needs to pluck a Senator or Rep to lead his Labor Department. Why not? The person might be better equipped to deal with the GA on contentious issues - at least in a more cordial manner than someone from the outside - and the person could not perform any worse than the recent string of appointees.
Also - and just being brutally honest and meaning no offense to the Rauner Administration - but Eric Greitens has a much road in terms of implementing his labor agenda.

Curl, can you fix your last sentence? No snark, just trying to make sense of what you’re saying there and I think a part is missing.
Otherwise, completely agree. Outsiders aren’t having much success communicating effectively with the GA lately.

My understanding is Greitens wants to be Rauner when he grows up. Tough times coming in Missouri. They’ve started slashing universities there already.
However…they do have a budget but they’re cutting it. Stupid tax cuts again coming home to roost.

I have no love for Rauner, but Greitens is far, far worse. Rauner has principles, even if I disagree with them. Greitens has none.

Jim, anything labor wants? Labor doesn’t want pension abandonment, dems are doing it. Labor doesn’t want hurtful cuts in workers comp, dems are agreeing to do it. Just to name two. Perhaps, it has more to do with Ms. Hui’s connection to Trumpite Elaine Chao.
