Senate adjourns until Monday

Posted in:

* The Senate just adjourned until Monday at noon. The reasoning is that the House isn’t doing anything anyway, so they might as well just go home.

Unlike the House earlier today, there was no uproar on the Senate floor when the adjournment resolution was announced.

  1. ===Unlike the House earlier today, there was no uproar on the Senate floor when the adjournment resolution was announced.===

Mr. Wehrli isn’t in the Senate, so that makes sense.

  2. Can someone explain why this budget vote keeps being delayed? It seems like today would of been the best time to vote based upon the positive energy yesterday.

  3. Real,

Because the House Republicans won’t put enough votes on revenue bill. They like to spend money, but not be adults and bring the revenue into the state.

  4. Mr/Ms Real
360 is, in part, correct. It is also “likely” the GOPies are changing the budget bill and gettin’ new demands from Gov”Happy”Junk therefore nuthin’ to vote on…..

  5. Oh Driveby,

Madigan issued a letter to ask bond houses to delay decision. Did Governor Junk co-sign or issue similar letter? It is important to show that both Republicans and Democrats want this to end, bi-partisan revenue bill is needed.

  6. ===… will get the downgrade he wants so Dems … use the “Governor Junk” plan.===

    Hmm.

How does the Wall Street Journal fit in this conspiracy?

Use disruptive words, make it a good story.

  7. –Can someone explain why this budget vote keeps being delayed?–

Based on yesterday, I’m guessing they can pass a budget.

71 for a tax increase is a very heavy lift.

Put it this way, back in 2014, House Dems couldn’t get 60 when they knew Quinn would sign it.

  8. Really the letter doesn’t matter. It’s fine. He demonstrated to people who “AREN’T” analysts that he’d like a little more time. Pass the popcorn. It’s a show.

What analysts are doing are watching. Not listening and not reading letters. They’re gauging serious intent on settling on a budget. If they think it’s imminent, they’ll keep an eye open and their powder dry. If they think it’s the hokey pokey; welcome to junk-ville.

It wouldn’t be completely out of the question that they would monitor the articles on this blog and any other close coverage with quotes from leaders and members.

What they do is serious. They’re no one’s tool.

  9. Is there anyone from the Governor’s office in these negotiations?

You forgot to get cigarettes of Sgt. J.J. Sefton… and Yuengling for me…

  12. The Senate doesn’t have a Grant Wherli demanding it stay in session so he can vote against every solution.
Exactly what would he do to prevent junk status?
What does he think those “no” votes would lead to?

Because the House Republicans won’t put enough votes on revenue bill. They like to spend money, but not be adults and bring the revenue into the state.
    ……..

I believe they should of ran the bills anyway. Delaying it only gives Rauner more time to sabatoge another budget.

Comment by Real Saturday, Jul 1, 17 @ 4:22 pm

  14. Funny that anyone would blame Rauner or any Republican for the mess Illinois is in… Didn’t democrats sell our tollbooths? Aren’t democrats in control of Chicago? The money from the tolls alone would keep the state afloat.

Comment by Honest Abe Saturday, Jul 1, 17 @ 5:54 pm

  15. Abe, that’s quite a scoop. When did the state sell the “toll booths?” How much did they get? Must have been a big score.

Comment by wordslinger Saturday, Jul 1, 17 @ 8:22 pm

  16. I stand correct, except for the chicago skyway, which is on a 99 year lease to the skyway concessions company, the remainder are ran by istha, and the initial lease they worked out for the Oasis for 25 years happened under Ryan, but that was foreclosed on due to blagovich’s corruption, pay to play bs. But this istha claims they are not state workers and appear to be their own entity

Comment by Honest Abe Saturday, Jul 1, 17 @ 11:22 pm

  17. Difficult to understand how Senate believes they have done their job. The Senate GOP voted no on most of the package and the Governor doesn’t support it. Is the upper chamber going to rubber stamp the lower chambers work? puzzling..

Comment by Captain Ed Smith Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 7:42 am

  18. Madigans Letter is pure showmanship. He should have concerned himself with this years ago.
The Rep’s are not voting the Rev bill as yea as it’s a dirty bill. Taxing our way into more issues & more debt. Call us CT nxt
Same exact nonsense that they have done for 30years.

Comment by sharkette Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 9:15 am

  19. Gov will veto the Rev bill as is.
It’s not beneficial for the residence of the state.

Comment by sharkette Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 9:17 am

  20. Taxes will be set back to within a hair of Quinn levels sooner or later. Round and round we go. I expect sanity rules and will be done by Independence day.
