Breen to be new House GOP floor leader

Posted in:

* House Republican Leader Jim Durkin will announce this evening that Rep. Peter Breen will take over as his new floor leader.

Breen (R-Lombard) is an attorney who advocates for pro-life causes. He’s very sharp in floor debates, so this role should be a good fit. He’s from the Jeanne Ives ideological wing in the HGOP caucus, but doesn’t have the same personal abrasiveness as some of those folks. Even so, it’s going to be interesting watching this guy work. Smart, very conservative and quick-witted.

Former floor leader Steve Andersson was ousted after he helped lead the override of Gov. Rauner’s budget and tax hike vetoes. It’s pretty darned certain that Rep. Breen won’t ever be doing anything like that.

  11. He’ll surprise you. He’s a brilliant guy, extraordinarily affable, and would be a contender for among the most talented people under the dome. He’s liked by many on the other side, maybe even most.

As Rich says, very quick-witted and very experienced and thoughtful. He’ll surprise most of you.

  15. As a former bleed blue Dem and now an independent, many of you are missing the ire towards the Democrats for abandoning the middle class. Its going to take some time, but this state is ripe for transition.

  17. Anderson’s departure, is akin to Comey being fired.

Rauner, just ain’t got a clue.

Blood in the streets of Chicago and he’s silent.

    Flooding and he’s silent.

He hasn’t got an ounce of what it takes to be a statesman. Sad.

His current campaign is a repeat… not an original thought.

  18. Sounds like a good choice.

I agree with blue dog dem. I used to be way farther left, even donated to Dems, but they went off reservation during Obama’s last term. I went so far left I came all the way around to being much more libertarian and conservative.

It’s going to be an interesting few years.

This should make it clear. Those who are willing to do what is best for the citizens of Illinois, and not willing to hold to the Crisis Creatin’ Governer’s plan (no matter what the cost), are not welcome in said governor’s republican party.
