ILGOP Releases Digital Video – “Get Back to Work”
Madigan and Cullerton Holding Schoolchildren Hostage

Mike Madigan and John Cullerton are holding school funding hostage by refusing to send Governor Rauner the education funding bill they passed two months ago.

It’s a perversion of the democratic process in order to force through their $500 million Chicago bailout.

Today, the Illinois Republican Party is releasing a digital video highlighting the Madigan machine’s refusal to honor the Illinois Constitution and send the education funding bill to the Governor’s desk.

  1. Doesn’t Rauner want the bill… to veto it?

I don’t think Rauner grasps what an AV actually… means… once “that” is done.

Also, didn’t Rauner “just” say he now wants negotiations?

Which is it? AV immediately… negotiate…

There has to be WWII Germany thing that Brittany Carl can use to clear the governing part for me.

  2. “It’s a perversion of the democratic process in order to force through their $500 million Chicago bailout.”

Guess who voted to authorize this “perversion of the democratic process” i.e. motion to reconsider? Bill Brady and all Senate Republicans.

Look at the roll call for SR 2 that established the senate rules for the 100th GA. Passed 58-0.

  3. That’s just warmed-over “Do Your Job”. The ILGOP comms shop is in a real rut right now.

Facts can be game changers…Like my favorite chef says when the meal gets its final sprinkle of kick…..’BAMM!!’

  5. For those who don’t like to read fine print in the GOP…Look at Senate Rule 7-15, pages 88-90 of SR 2. Motion to reconsider. Then look at the roll call, all Republicans voted for it. If it was good enough then, what has changed?

  7. Attacks, threats, lies, rambling obfuscations, war chests of hate, diminishing competence (at fevered pace), shrinking support, fleeing population, - and Rauner could win another term. What does that say about Illinois politics?

  8. Booorrring. I give it a gentleman’s “D”. Tired images and a hijacked theme.

What happened to the ILGOP messaging? Seems like the talent just isn’t there anymore.

    ;-)

  9. Eventually, when all you have are messaging tricks and no substantive accomplishments, things will fall apart.

Rauner can’t “get back to work” because he never started.

  10. Guess Rauner doesn’t realize bills get passed by the majority, that the majority usually dictate policy, and the way to affect things is to actually talk to the General Assembly.

The video is almost funny, coming from Governor “Can’t Do His Job” Rauner … Leading by example.

  11. The situation can be spun many ways. But, in the end, the triggering event for the inevitable school opening crisis will be the Governor’s AV. He will “own” the crisis as school officials explain the situation they find themselves in as: “Everything was on track until the Governor vetoed the bill. He wanted to politically punish CPS so much that he didn’t care if he also took down every other school district to do it.”

Comment by School Finance Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:12 am

  12. A reasonable amendatory AV which would still allow schools to open and changes the pension language, and is not acted upon or rejected by the Dems will volley it back to their court and they will own the not opening label

  13. Is that a remote control or a photoshopped gun in Madigan’s hand? Beyond tacky.

Comment by Archiesmom Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:24 am

  14. == will volley it back to their court ==

Nope. The messaging on that is too complicated. The message “Rauner vetoed” is simple and clear.

    To repeat -OW- “Governor’s own”

Comment by RNUG Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:26 am

  15. Archiesmom- It’s another reporter’s hand holding a recorder. Not Madigan’s. But when you just glance at it, it does appear to be Madigan holding gun to Cullerton’s head. Intentional or not by the IPIes… hard to say. I think they just wanted the “mug” shot, and the implication was a fluke.

    Comment by Anon221 Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:28 am

  16. The message “stopped Chicago Bailout” is also pretty clear- it has worked and will if the AV is reasonable to the pension issue

Comment by Yo Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:30 am

  17. Is it just me, or is that image from 00:14 to 00:16 or so with a clicker in MM’s hand intended to look like a gun to go with the “hostage” theme?

    That’s very poor form.

Comment by Stormfield Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 10:50 am

  18. (Tips cap to - RNUG -)

    Only a governor can veto.

If Rauner and his Crew don’t understand how an AV works and schools don’t open…

“Rauner vetoed that”… That veto is Rauner owning the crisis.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Jul 28, 17 @ 11:19 am

  19. Sen. Cullerton should hold his ground. He and Sen. Radogno got stabbed in the back by Rauner this year when they tried to end the impasse. Sen. Cullerton is giving Rauner and his crew a lesson. Hold the bill till the last moment and force the Govs. hand. Repeal with 90% of what you want with no chance of an override and you own it. See how that flies across the state when schools close. Send it to the House and it’s Madigan’s to deal with. Nice job actually.

  20. More of the same from the permanent moon party.

  21. Somebody should put together a video asking when 1.4% is going to start workin’ on governin’.

  22. madigan is holding a senate bill, repeating a lie does not make it true

  23. In the world outside of the inside…this is a good video.
Apparently that crew hasn’t been affected by the other changes. They are masterful in this medium.
