  1. That’s 18% of the House…

Lots of institutional knowledge from both sides leaving too

  2. It doesn’t appear we need to enact term limits.

  3. Left off John Caveletto

  5. I wish I could look at this list and say the next General Assembly will contain replacements willing to work together on the state’s problems. No, we’re losing people because working together is a political crime in today’s America.

  6. I’m betting it’s not finished yet.

  7. Anybody know what Soto is running for outside of GA?

  8. Al Riley is not going to run again.

  9. Interesting how many just hit the minimum amount of years of service so that they can collect their pension and then they are bailing.

    Comment by BIG R. Ph. Monday, Sep 25, 17 @ 4:47 pm

  10. What about Althoff? A news report linked here indicated she was not running again, but I’ve seen no actual announcement from her office. Still holding out hope it is not true… fingers crossed. Many legislators on this list from both sides, both Chambers will be a big loss for Illinois.

    Name them.

===No, we’re losing people because working together is a political crime in today’s America===

This is the truth of the exodus, the idea of getting things done, but still being able to blame the other side is the elephant walking thru the eye of a needle.

  12. Lovie, at one point Soto was running for MWRD commissioner. She wasn’t slated by the party so who know’s if she’s still running. Either way she’s not going back to Springfield.

  13. Looks like Rauner got his term limits afterall.

  14. Job creators got to be goin’ bat-stuff over these natural term limits.

Call those hundreds of companies you had lined up governor on your secret trips and tell them to come on down.

  15. I don’t know any of these folks personally. I am sure some are decent, well intentioned people. But…they aren’t leaving the state in very good shape. What will the next group of replacements bring? I will hope for the best, but am not holding my breath.

Comment by blue dog dem Monday, Sep 25, 17 @ 6:15 pm

  16. BIG R Ph: You’re mistaken about this timing being driven by pension vesting. Remember the vesting requirement was lengthened in 2010, meaning those who were there before that year were vested years ago.

  17. When you get to 118 for the House and 59 for the Senate the people can declare a victory. We will gladly trade institutional knowledge for common sense.

  18. ===We will gladly trade institutional knowledge for common sense.===

Yeah. Like Rauner not knowing how many votes needed for an override “trade”

I know it felt good to type, but a functioning government should include those who know how governing actually works.

  19. Draining the swamp, IL style. It used to be easy being a nothing legislator in IL. Now, legislators are targeted, called out more on social media, etc, so its not the easy paycheck anymore.

Term limits are still an issue. It’s the leadership that needs to be drained.

  20. ===Draining the swamp===

Why is that the term used about DC?

    Do you know?

  21. ==interesting how many just hit the minimum amount of years of service so that they can collect their pension and then they are baili==

Interesting that it would be the same if we had term limits.

I don’t believe in term limits. First, I like to vote for whomever I want, which term limits might prevent. Second, over time, people leave on their own. In the meantime, we need some of our legislators need to have some expertise in politics. I call your attention to BTIA.

Gotta get in the arena, then win, and win again.

When you decide to do that, let us all know.
