ILGOP chairman says he’s “disappointed” in Rauner, but blames Madigan

Posted in:

* Surprise!…

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider released the following statement after Governor Rauner announced he will be signing House Bill 40 into law:

“I am disappointed in the Governor’s decision to sign HB40 as the Illinois Republican Party opposes taxpayer-funded abortions.

“While I am frustrated and saddened, I also know that Speaker Madigan and the Democrats are trying to use this issue to divide our party and elect a Madigan-backed candidate for governor.

“As Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, I will not let that happen. Our state faces great challenges, and we are focused on the issues that unite us as Republicans and as Illinoisans. There is no daylight between Governor Rauner and the Illinois Republican Party and we will continue working hard to ensure his reelection and finally defeat Mike Madigan once and for all.”

  4. Sure seems like there’s a lot of “daylight between Governor Rauner and the Illinois Republican Party” lately. But keep telling yourself that this is all Madigan’s fault. That worked out for you, right? /snark

  5. Now you’re making the “Blame Madigan” game just look silly.

  7. ==There is no daylight between Governor Rauner and the Illinois Republican Party ==

Umm, this is what the GOP platform says:

*We advocate the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

*We oppose the use of taxpayer funds to pay for abortions

Seems to me there is a solar system between the Governor and the Illinois Republican Party.

  8. “Disappointed” seems to be the sanctioned word of disapproval.

    Breen didn’t get the memo.

  14. Wow - any way the ILGOP can twist something to blame on Madigan, they try it.

Comment by Christopher Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 4:00 pm

  15. Worst day in Illinois Republican politics since Edgar signed the pension ramp. Rauner is done, not a chance of re-election. I live downstate, and the Repubs downstate will turn him into Mark Kirk now.

Comment by MIKEY THE DEM Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 4:03 pm

  16. What is Schneider even talking about? This has nothing to do with Madigan.

This has more to do with contradictory principles that really imply some sort of mental issue. Surprise. It’s been obvious for quite some time.

Rauner The Terrible should resign. His republican strategies like running up the accounts payable ledger to $15b+ are not appreciated and need to be labeled the hoax that they are.

Not only has he created mayhem for no good public reason, he disengeniously panders to a new constituency daily.

The unprincipled plutocrat is inept; GOP deserves a better patron. This guy’s a joke.

Comment by Moby Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 4:09 pm

  21. Yep, Rauners toast. He has just become another part of the “combine”. But more sad is the new and improved ease with which we will pay to murder children. Sorry if people don’t like the language but that is what we are doing. Yet we can’t even think about ending the life of a pre-meditated murderer. It’s these kinds or moral priorities that betray the moral vacuum of leaders in this state.

  28. Schneider exhibits symptoms of MDS, Madigan Derangement Syndrome. Persons afflicted with it blame everything bad in Illinois on Madigan, while giving him no credit for anything good.

  29. IL GOP chair Tim Schneider said, “There is no daylight between Governor Rauner and the Illinois Republican Party and we will continue working hard to ensure his reelection….” Is he kidding?

  30. –ILGOP chairman says he’s “disappointed” in Rauner, but blames Madigan–

    Best headline ever.

That’s straight out of Kubrick in “Dr. Strangelove” or Heller in “Catch-22.”

I see young Bob Newhart (Major Major) as Schneider in the farce.

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 4:46 pm

  31. At his press conference, Rauner actually said this: “The moral argument AGAINST HB 40 is very powerful and in my view not debatable. It is irrefutable.”

I guess Rauner decided to go with the debatable, refutable moral argument.

Comment by Laurie Higgins Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 5:04 pm

  32. If they’d held the tax increase for a couple weeks Rauner probably would have signed that, too.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 5:07 pm

  33. Here’s a headline from the e-blast I just received from my local Patch online newspaper: “Rauner Signs Bill Permitting Medicaid to Cover Abortion”.

Comment by GA Watcher Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 5:15 pm

  34. The blame Madigan Mantra is like when we were kids and you’re used to look into the mirror and say I believe in Mary worth I believe in Mary worth

LOL, no he actually rejected the moral, irrefutable argument that he claims.

Great work, BTIA(TM). Not so good grades in English and Logic, huh?

  36. Madigan, the perfect scapegoat for all of our problems.

    Comment by Mr B Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 6:45 pm

  37. Rauner left out the logical conclusion.

    “I sign HB40, therefore I am immoral.”

    What a reptile.

Comment by cdog Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 7:32 pm

  38. Obviously it was Madigan. The Governor really tried but cmon guys it’s not his fault.

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Sep 28, 17 @ 7:34 pm

  39. Dear Mr. schneider;
MMadigan is the reason I am no longer a Dem. People like you and the governor is why I cannot be a Republican. Thanks for reminding me.
