Pritzker, like Kennedy to release tax returns when he files petitions

Posted in:

* You’ll recall this from yesterday

The gubernatorial race in Illinois is entering a new phase as the presumed Democratic front-runner finds himself under attack, with comparisons to President Donald Trump.

The latest twist is in a new ad launched by Daniel Biss, who goes after billionaire JB Pritzker over his tax returns.

The video shows Trump responding to questions about releasing his tax returns by saying they are complex. It then shows Pritzker using the same reason for not having released his returns.

“As J.B. has said, we’re preparing that information and will be releasing them, along with his financial disclosure form, by the end of the filing period,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Galia Slayen.

She said the filing period she alluded to was the period for turning in petition signatures to get on the March ballot. It begins Nov. 27 and ends Dec. 4. When candidates file, they also must turn in a receipt that the candidate has filed a statement of economic interest with the secretary of state’s office, a largely generic form that provides little guidance to a candidate’s possible worth.

Chris Kennedy has also pledged to follow the same timetable. He’ll release them when he files his statement of economic interest with his petitions.

  1. As I’ve said for months, this was always a stupid non-issues. There was zero question he was going to release his returns.

  2. So long as they actually do it, that’s fine. Trump showed that voters’ interest in this subject is ephemeral at best. But Trump also repeatedly promised, then delayed to release his tax returns, so Watch This Space.

  3. And when they do, will the Rauner-owned Illinois GOP insist that Trump do the same?
And if they pledge to put their money in a blind trust if elected, will Rauner put his assets in a blind trust now?

  4. Actually Arsenal, Trump’s “promise” to release the returns was always conditional. He always said they were under audit (which was a lie) and he couldn’t release as long as they were under audit (another lie). And then he just blew it off and got away with it.

  5. First day to file is Monday after Thanksgiving. Get lost in the general post-holiday catatonia.

  6. Oh boy, LOL…

===As I’ve said for months, this was always a stupid non-issues. There was zero question he was going to release his returns.===

“As I’ve said for months, this was always a stupid non-issues.”

… that the campaign continually has had to answer and had a whole statement here, declaring that they will… just “not now”

    “There was zero question”

… and yet it was just “now” that we have a date wheh they will be released, allowing questions to occur because of phony, fuzzy, dodging.

===he was going to release his returns==

    Yeah, Pritzker hasn’t yet.

    K? K.

Your spinning on what was said is embarrassingly comical.

  7. I’m not spinning. I’ve said there was zero question they’d be releasing. He was quoted repeatedly saying that. And now they are going to. Where’s the spin?

  8. ===I’ve said there was zero question they’d be releasing===

… and yet, there still were questions, so many questions a date needed to be made.

===He was quoted repeatedly saying that. And now they are going to. Where’s the spin?===

“Going To” … abc the actual release..

    Not the same.

    LOL

  9. ==Actually Arsenal, Trump’s “promise” to release the returns was always conditional.==

Fair enough, but I still think that Trump has thrown enough chum into the water that it’s OK to doubt anyone will release their tax returns until they actually do. Trump broke that norm. Releasing tax returns can no longer be assumed.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Nov 15, 17 @ 10:44 am

  10. I’m glad he set a date so this silly counting can end. If he doesn’t release when he files, than folks have a legitimate talking point.

Comment by Montrose Wednesday, Nov 15, 17 @ 10:46 am

  11. Hey Biss and Kennedy, focus on Rauner. Focus on how YOU are going to change the political environment in Springfield and our state. Focus on having a plan. Stop focusing on JB.

Comment by Honeybadger Wednesday, Nov 15, 17 @ 10:53 am

  12. ==Hey Biss and Kennedy, focus on Rauner.==

Did you advise the Cubs to focus on Houston?

    Comment by A guy Wednesday, Nov 15, 17 @ 3:01 pm

  13. @Honeybadger: I’m not sure I agree with your take. It’s a primary, going after your opponent in that race is fair game. Remember the Clinton emails? Did Sanders do Clinton or the Dems a favor for going easy on her on that? Or would’ve it forced her to step up her game more? Rauner won’t pull punches, so Dems should use the primary fully as a test run for everybody. As Coach Herm Edwards said “You play to win the game.” Period.

Comment by Veil of Ignorance Wednesday, Nov 15, 17 @ 3:05 pm

  14. LOL I’ll believe that when I see it. He is the least substantial, least qualified, most incapable candidate for governor in this race, and that says something when the current governor can’t even get a budget passed.

  15. ===Hey Biss and Kennedy, focus on Rauner===
That is the dumbest criticsm I’ve ever seen in this race so far. Do you want to lose to Rauner? Because bloated billionare JB will do just that. Ask Hillary Clinton how simply trashing the other opponent went.
