Question of the day: Golden Horseshoe Awards

Posted in:

* We didn’t get very many responses to yesterday’s question and that may have been because people were at the Third House holiday party. On a side note, congratulations to new Third House Speaker Erin O’Brien!

Anyway, let’s try this again. If you already submitted your nomination yesterday, you don’t need to repost it today…

* Best House Secretary/Admin. Assistant

* Best Senate Secretary/Admin. Assistant

Remember to explain your nominations and please try to nominate in both categories. Thanks.

  1. House - Julia Berlotino (sp)

    She has to manage Greg Harris’ schedule and protect everyone from his wrath when he’s not had his daily allowance of cookies.

    True stories.

  2. Lisa Katava for the best Senate LA. Always welcomes you with a smile.

    Comment by Mr. Scuffers Friday, Dec 8, 17 @ 1:32 pm

  3. House- Mika (Speaker’s Office) Mika knows her stuff better than anyone out there. She runs a tight ship and always has everything under control.

    Senate- Connor McDermott (Senator Hasting’s Office) Mr. McDermott is quite impressive for being new in the capitol. Very helpful to everyone he encounters. Like other people have stated, trying to keep track of Hastings has to be a mission in itself.

  4. Senate: Mindy Weir in Manar’s office.
    School funding, automatic voter registration, a sprawling district that includes the Capitol … that’s a lot to stay on top of.
    Not only does she manage it, she manages it while always staying calm, polite and professional.

  5. I nominate Mika Baugher in 300 statehouse. She is here early everyday even on non-session days. Mika knows how to balance work and home. She also keeps the State of Illinois running with her kindness and smartness.

  6. Illinois House- Amanda Phelps

    She handles not only one, but two legislative leaders and she is a source of information for staff and lobbyists.

  7. Miles Sodowski in the Senate. He knows as much about Sen. Koehler’s bills as the bill’s staffers. When you come to talk to Sen. Koehler about something and he’s inevitably busy (as they all are) you can guarantee Miles will know where the Senator stands and why and will tell you everything he’s allowed to. This is my first CapFax comment, after many years of reading, so you know I mean it. All the nominees are awesome though.

  8. Senate- Mindy Weir is by far the best LA I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Not only is she working for someone who knows a thing or two about Senate Staff, but she does it with grace, humility, and treats everyone, friend or foe, like a long-lost friend. Senator Manar would not have the type of reputation he has without the help of Mindy in his Springfield office. She is a definite unsung hero and fittingly deserves to be recognized.

  9. Right about Mindy and will revote for Mika too

  10. Mika is on the top of the list..

  11. House — Liz Moody, Art Turner’s LA. The nicest, most resourceful person who always helps out when you need it. Not to mention, she puts up with the NRA on their advocacy day when they’re all moping around.

    Senate - Connor McDermott & Lisa Katava, hands down. Connor is a new guy, picked up a high energy Senator who runs a lot of bills while managing to treat every person who comes by with kindness. Lisa Katava because she manages to maintain peace on the 1st floor hallway all while serving as a den mother to young McDermott & Hastings. God bless that lady she has the patience of a saint.

  12. House: Mika - She’s always making sure all staffers regardless of where they work in the complex that 300 has food. She’s always there with a cheerful smile and friendly demeanor

  13. Senate - Erika Bridges. She is one of the most pleasant and competent people I have ever met. She is always positive and happy, making our frustrations easier to accept. She handles two senators instead of one as most other L.A.s do, thus saving taxpayer dollars.

  14. Senator hasting admin connor is sharp and deft at handling a busy cadre if lobbyists.

    Comment by ChiefM Saturday, Dec 9, 17 @ 1:04 pm

  15. Mika. Smart. Discreet. Will help if she can and will tell you if she can’t. She is the best.
