Good news for social media users: Pritzker finally retires ubiquitous ad

Posted in:

* Just about everyone who has surfed YouTube or Facebook has seen this ad countless times since it debuted in early December

You knew I was running for governor to get Illinois back on track, but you didn't know the best advice I've ever received or my favorite TV show – until now. Check it out! pic.twitter.com/37Q9wkYPeW

— JB Pritzker (@JBPritzker) December 6, 2017

* Well, Facebook has been posting campaign ads and accompanying stats online since May 19, and it turns out the spot was discontinued on the last day of May

As many as 500,000 impressions in just twelve days on Facebook alone? Just imagine what the total was across all platforms since early December. Whew.

Click here to see Pritzker’s Facebook ads since May 19. Click here to see Gov. Rauner’s (both links include opposition ads).

  1. Now we’ll see if it’s still on Hulu constantly…

  2. What is it with rich guys and vests?

Is it some rich guy thing? Some man-of-the-people thing?

Neither one of those guys should wear a vest. It flatters neither.

And Rauner and his tchotchke vest flair? Next thing you know he’ll be planting gnomes in that dirty faux-biker-cut.

  3. In fact, I’d like to see both dudes take a no-vest pledge.

  4. LOL “ubiquitous”

  5. A fun part of the ad is that the only thing that he can think of to describe his running mate is that she is “cool”. Watch other videos and interviews and it is literally the first thing he says about her every time - that she’s “cool”, so “cool to be around”, she is the “coolest” thing about his campaign. Odd…

  6. Already heard/seen his healthy Breakfast for kids ads. they are quite good - ironically he is touting his support of non-profits rather than the state to support the program. Not exactly a progressive platform but I like it ..

  7. Glad it’s phased out. I’m a JB supporter but I cringed each time I saw that awkward knock-off of Vogue’s 73 questions spot.

  8. Those ads made me crazy. Every time I clicked on an article at CBS Sports I had to mute or pause them before I could read what I wanted to read. And I waste A LOT of time at that website. Made me resentful.

  9. They needed to spin through these faster. This one only got worse upon (the many many) forced repeat viewings.

  10. Woo-hoo.

I wasn’t on social media, I was reading on CNN. And there was ‘Hey, JB…’ over and over again day after day, all day long for a while.

I’m excited over the up-coming election and I want to see/hear what you’ve got to say. But I want variety and fresh. You’re suppose to be interesting me, getting my attention. Not tempting me to slap my laptop off the table.

  11. The puffy vest look is not a good one for Pritzker. (Well, it’s not a good look for anyone, really.)

  12. It’s about time. I have two early teens in my house who are encouraging a no vote for the guy because it keeps slowing down YouTube videos and constantly plays. They also will not go see the Steve Miller band now because it’s the best concert he attended according to one snippet.

  13. JB says he favorite TV show is Gilligan’s Island. And you want to be our Governor ?

  14. Any guy who thinks that toilets are disposable objects isn’t someone you’d want to get “up close and personal” with.

What TV show should a gubernatorial candidate have as a favorite TV show… according to you.

    Don’t say, “well, not ‘Gilligan’s Island’…”

    What show?

  18. It seems to give the impression that the Hey JB ad, did not have a “paid for” statement.

Comment by OneMan Monday, Jun 4, 18 @ 2:38 pm

  19. JB doesn’t seem like someone that I would enjoy spending time with. That ad reinforced that.

  21. It’s really possible that it’s a good ad. I honestly can’t give an unbiased judgement since I’ve grown to despise it over the last 6 months. And now I’m gonna have to see Rauner on every screen, too? Ugh.
