This just in…

Posted in:

* 10:25 am - The House has canceled tomorrow’s session. The Senate will be in, however. Not sure what time the leaders meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.

* 10:51 am - Have you purchased a t-shirt, golf shirt, button etc. from our charity project site yet? If you haven’t, get on over there now!

If you have, send me a pic of yourself wearing the swag and I’ll post it here. The first three people who respond (with publishable photos, of course) will get another piece of our merchandise from me. Their choice.

Send your photo as a jpg attachment to capitolfax (at) aol (dot) com. Thanks!

* 11:11 am - So, you think legislative redistricting is easy? Try the Redistricting Game and see for yourself.

* 1:40 pm - Based on some of the calls I’ve received and talks I’ve had with various higher-ups, I was assuming that the folks who run the State Police and the governor’s office have been worried about leaks within the governor’s security detail for quite some time. Neil Steinberg’s column yesterday provided a bit more evidence

…I wouldn’t want to get any of the troopers feeding gossip to Judy into trouble.

* 2:10 pm - The Senate has canceled tomorrow’s session.

* 2:56 pm - The post on Republican Sen. Kirk Dillard doing a TV ad for Barack Obama has been moved here.

* 2:59 pm - If you use Insight Cable for your broadband access (as I do), and your service has been unreal slow all day, it should be over soon. I called them several minutes ago and there was a problem with a fiber optic line up north. The estimated finish time is supposed to be sometime after 4 o’clock.

  1. Have you heard anything on the 30 day budget?

  2. It’s a good thing the House canceled tomorrow’s session. It’s important they be Bright and Fresh, and Clean and Well Rested for the hard work ahead . . . starting Wednesday.

  3. A Citizen- Why should the house meet when they are waiting on the clowns at the top to get them something to vote on?

Comment by Leigh Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 1:08 pm

  4. That game got hard when I had to assure each and every incumbent had a 55% majority for their parties in each district.

Comment by Levois Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 1:37 pm

  5. The redistricting game was super fun. I’ve finished all the “easy” redistricts, and the first “advanced” redistrict. The most time consuming was voting rights act compliance, by far. The only redistrict I had to do more than once was the “blind” redistrict (the last one).

Thanks for linking that one, Rich!

  6. The game was fun but it’s a lot easier to just pick a name out of a hat and let someone else do it.

  7. Countdown until Republicans at some websites start calling Dillard a RINO and screaming for his head

  8. Froehlich switched parties? How sad. Blowhard Dillard is doing commercials for Obama! I knew the IL GOP was in shambles but this is truly sad.

Comment by Wumpus Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 2:43 pm

  9. Hooray for Kirk Dillard! It’s about time someone stood up for principles and not just politics. Maybe it’s the beginning of helping each other get things done in Illinois government.

Comment by Independent One Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 2:45 pm

  10. Wow. Way to go, Kirk. And to think people were pushing for him to be head of the Senate Republican Caucus. You would never see a visible Democrat in this state endorsing a Republican presidential candidate.

Comment by Team Sleep Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 2:50 pm

  11. Froehlich shows his true colors.

Good luck, Schaumburg Township GOP…or what’s left of it!

Just trying to give them a little PEP Talk. This is going to be a very hard two day workweek. I hope they’re up to it - or maybe they are trying to help the blagster cut down on his flying?

    Comment by A Citizen Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 2:52 pm

  13. Not surprised they are having a hard time doing a 30 day budget. Blago and Emil’s idea of a bare bones 30 day budget means 30 days of Rod’s health care for all. Not sure Cross did not get the better end of the deal with Froelich.

Comment by wrigs Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 2:52 pm

  14. A,
    Rod wasn’t coming anyway.

Comment by Bill Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 3:18 pm

  15. So they will be in session on Wednesday? Will they be there until Friday? haha

Comment by State Girl Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 3:24 pm

  16. -Bill- Rod has jet lag, huh?

    Comment by A Citizen Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 3:29 pm

  17. Rod? Rod who?

Comment by Papa Legba Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 5:26 pm

  18. Cancelled session means the temporary budget talks the staff was working on over the weekend didn’t go so good. No checks state employees after June 30. Sorry

Comment by silver lining Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 7:03 pm

  19. The House canceled, The Senate canceled, Bill says the gov wasn’t coming (sic) anyway. Sounds more and more like the Cubs. Wait Til Next Fiscal Year. Boy it’s really effective having the Dems in the majority!

    Comment by A Citizen Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 8:42 pm

  20. The gerrymandering game is one of the better efforts on the subject I’ve seen. I particularly appreciate that like Illinois, the game provides no natural geographic or political borders, and the court takes no notice of the lack of compactness if incumbent protection is the goal.

Comment by muon Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 10:18 pm

  21. The 30 day budget will pass this week. The leaders agreed not to have meetings over the weekend. The budgeteers began crafting the 30 day budget this morning. As in 2004, this only assures that session will not adjourn until July 15 at the earliest.

Comment by unclesam Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 10:25 pm

  22. Poor things, all worn out with all this talk of filthy lucre. And all that flying around is very tiring, especially that long hop to SPI.

Here’s some advice: GET OFF YOUR DEAD A–ES AND GO TO WORK! You are all an embarrassment for this state. You could not hold a job in the private sector if you caught it in a bucket.

Comment by Disgusted Monday, Jun 25, 07 @ 10:51 pm

  23. muon - does it? I tried to manage my compactness every time, so I just figured I passed that test. I’ll have to try some crazier gerrymanders next time around.
