Comment by VanillaMan Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:21 pm

  5. Madigan Blago toilet tax cheat vs failed governor.

And Kash Winderweedle becoming a household name.

Comment by Henry Francis Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:21 pm

  6. Gloves come off early and stay off.

Comment by Groucho Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:22 pm

  7. P: “Bruce Rauner failed.”

    R: “I’m not in charge.”

    P: ….

Comment by Nick Name Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:24 pm

  8. Guys who buy nominations don’t know how to make governments a good value for the rest of us.

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:24 pm

  9. Sam McCann and Kash Jackson are allowed to participate–and McCann actually wins that night’s debate.

Comment by Leatherneck Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:25 pm

  10. Dropping all g’s from suffixes

    Comment by Rockford's Finest Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:33 pm

  11. Rauner will serve up whoppers like a robotic Burger King and desperately try to stay on script so he doesn’t start babblin’ incoherently like he does when he tries to think on his feet.

    Pritzker will say “Rauner failed.”

I’m guessing I’ll be flipping between Cubs at Diamondbacks and another instant-classic Thursday night NFL epic, Jets at Browns.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:33 pm

  12. 98% of the viewing audience will have already made up their mind before it started, 1% will have trouble changing the channel after landing on the station, last 1% it will just be random background noise while they do house work.

Comment by Anonish Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:44 pm

  13. Madigan 36
    Blagojevich 6
    Trump 16
    Toilets 2
    Failed 12

Comment by Contract Disputin' Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:45 pm

  14. I predict Rauner includes in his pieces of flair a small porcelain toilet pin. I predict JB includes “and Trump” 3/4 of the time he says “Rauner.”

Comment by AlfondoGonz Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:48 pm

  15. Rauner will do better than expected. He’s been a lousy governor, but he’s a good salesman when not fact checked.

Comment by DarkHorse Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:51 pm

  16. Both candidates will wear ties.

Comment by Al Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:54 pm

  17. The real question is whether McCann will be fetching JB his coffee or will he actually participate?

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:54 pm

  18. 90 minutes or whatever of your life that you’ll never get back.

    Comment by Chris P. Bacon Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:55 pm

  19. My prediction: Rauner will laugh out loud. A lot.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:01 pm

  20. I predict it won’t have much of an effect on the election. Everyone will have decided who they are voting for by then.

Comment by Thomas Zane Stepp Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:04 pm

  21. Jobs have increased, especially in Cook and the collar counties. Rauner will try to take credit.
Actually the jobs have increased not because of, but in spite of Rauner. Pritzker will bring up the lack of budgets, destruction of higher education, Quincy preventable deaths of veteran’s, non-completion by Rauner of the Chicago veteran’s home, and the long list of Rauner’s failures as governor.
Rauner will counter with calling Pritzker a toilet-remover tax avoider.

Comment by DuPage Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:10 pm

  22. The moderators will magically find a way to exclude McCann, give Pritzker a hard time, and not press Rauner on any of his falsehoods.

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:11 pm

  23. Neither one of them are that polished (generous I know) so one or both are susceptible to really stepping in it in a huge way.

Even if very few watch, but one of them says something beyond the pale, it will make news and could sink their chances.

I pray it’s not JB that screws up.

Comment by don the legend Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:14 pm

  24. Rauner’s eyes will get very big, often.

    Comment by Joe M Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:21 pm

  25. This election, like so many others in our lifetimes, was summed up pretty well by Paul Simon many years ago. “Laugh about it shout about it when you’ve got to choose, every way way you look at it you lose”.

Comment by The Magnificent Purple Walnut Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:30 pm

  26. Pain

Comment by NeverPoliticallyCorrect Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:33 pm

  27. I’ll be watching something (almost anything) else.

Comment by Northsider Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:45 pm

  28. They both have plenty of things to say to make the other one uncomfortable. Which makes many in Illinois uncomfortable that these two represent our choice for governor. It will be a trainwreck, but we’ll all slow down for a few minutes to see it.

Comment by SSL Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:00 pm

  29. JB will not be able to explain how he can possibly pay for all of his campaign promises (especially since his beloved progressive tax failed by 10 votes in the House last month).

Governor Rauner will ask him to repeat his claim that no one leaves Illinois because of high taxes.

Comment by Lucky Pierre Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:08 pm

  30. There will be dropping of g’s, countless fact-free pronouncements accompanied by awkward laughs, a (long, long) list of what BVR didn’t accomplish, and viewers - presumably those who care about IL and its politics - will feel let down.

I’m not sure debates are a means to GOTV, frankly.

Comment by dbk Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:37 pm

  31. “Bruce, since you refused to debate in the primary, it’s nice that you could make it today.”

“JB, since you’re part of the corrupt Blago-Madigan cabal, how could you drain the swamp?”

    Comment by anon2 Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:51 pm

  32. There will be no real debate - just canned political comments.

Comment by Mama Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 5:19 pm

  33. Trump’s name not uttered by Brucie.

    Comment by d.p.gumby Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 5:20 pm

  34. Some poor janitor is going be sweeping up a lot of dropped “g’s”.
1.4% will telegraph his whoppers with a laugh.
    Won’t persuade very many people.

Comment by Huh? Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 6:15 pm

  35. JB will eat Rauner’s lunch. And anyone else’s within reach… seriously, I think it is going to get ugly really quickly and that there will be very little serious policy discussion. The candidates will be over-scripted, will stick to their talking points, and will repeat some attack phrase. At some point, one of the candidates will commit a gaffe of some sort, and that will be the story of the night. (Feel free to copy this response for any other questions about a televised major candidate debate).

Comment by The Ford Lawyer Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 6:48 pm

  36. JB opening line- I’d like to welcome in the front row the xyz families of the veteran’s who were killed by the Rauner administration in Quincy then were told countless lies during the ensuing coverup.

    Any other questions?
