McCann launches visually striking pro-Trump cable TV ad

Posted in:

* From the Sam McCann campaign…

A robust six figure buy will blanket the Chicagoland cable markets starting tonight through Election Day targeting sensible conservatives that continue to support our President and candidates with like minded values.

* You really should watch the ad because the script below doesn’t do it justice

Um, OK. Whew.

* Script…

President Trump: This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

Announcer: With Sam McCann as our conservative governor, he will fight alongside President Trump and the police to protect our borders and this state from illegals. Our nation is being overrun by illegals and our values are being attacked by extremist liberals. Illinois must elect Sam McCann as governor to work with President Trump and our police to rebuild Illinois together.

McCann recently reported a $430K contribution from the Fight Back Fund, a dark money group that appears to be controlled by Local 150 of the Operating Engineers Union.

  1. This ad is disgusting and I’m profoundly disappointed that a union would support it. I get the game they’re running but it is incredibly irresponsible to put hundreds of thousands of dollars behind it on television. It’s a message that deserves no audience. Shame on everyone.

  2. McCann the false flag candidate.

Comment by Texas Red Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:44 pm

  3. That is disturbing on so many levels. Too bad I can’t UN-watch it.

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:44 pm

  4. This ad… oh my goodness…

I hope the DGA does an ad pointing out how McCann is so Trumpian, and we all need to be aware that McCann is too conservative for Illinois.

Boy, I hope the DGA sets the record straight… with this ad running too…

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:44 pm

  5. So in supporting him, you are taking votes away from Rauner… The ends justify the means I guess?

Comment by OneMan Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:47 pm

  6. We all know McCann is a stalking horse. What worries me the most are the down ballot races that will be effected.

Comment by Been There Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:50 pm

  7. This is the first I’ve heard the name of his running mate. So that’s something…

  8. Another great ad by Sen. McCann!!!! Protecting the borders of IL is soooooo important!!!!

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:52 pm

  9. Does McCann know he’s running in Illinois?

Comment by Stones Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:53 pm

  10. Wowza. I was expecting something on legal abortions, but this plays right into the fears of undocumented brown people and criminals destroying and overrunning the country, that Trump masterfully stokes.

I’d think this ad should run downstate and in markets where overwhelming racial homogeneity exists, where fear of brown and black criminals overrunnin’ the place would be most effective.

Let’s not clutch them pearls too tightly, Raunerites. Bruce caused massive damage to people. How many unborn will be terminated on the Medicaid dole, thanks to Rauner?

What OW said. The DGA needs to run a spot saying McCann is too conservative for Illinois.

Comment by Grandson of Man Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:54 pm

  11. The only way I can see this ad being created: His dog whistle broke and accidentally starts blasting at full volume

    Comment by Driving a car Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:55 pm

  12. Oh no…extremist liberals trying to make everyone have health care…can the nation survive?

Comment by Skeptic Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:55 pm

  13. ===accidentally starts blasting at full volume===

There is nothing… nothing accidental about this ad.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:56 pm

  14. Sam McCann should try running for governor of Fantasyland after he loses in two weeks. There he would be safe from illegal immigrants and liberal extremists and would finally be able to pass all the budget increases and tax cuts that he ever wanted to pass.

Comment by Chicagonk Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:57 pm

  15. Wait, he’s running an ad in the Chicago market saying Rauner doesn’t support Trump? And this is supposed to hurt Rauner?

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:58 pm

  16. This is interesting. Do you think Trump supporters will turn out in droves to support Sam — and if so, what does that do to down-ballot races?

Comment by Soccermom Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:01 pm

  17. Doesn’t matter if it’s Chicago.. There are Tump supporters in Chicago just like downstate.

Comment by Real Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:03 pm

  18. ===and if so, what does that do to down-ballot races?===

Probably why Pritzker added $15 million in trying to keep the Dem GOTV flush so it can do the needed work in the case of Trunpkins coming out and deflating where Dems feel they have a surge.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:04 pm

  19. Not many down ballot republicans running in Chicago.

Comment by Real Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:05 pm

  20. ===Does McCann know he’s running in Illinois?===

McCann is running to take 5% or more away from Bruce Rauner.

That’s the ball game. It’s not about winning.

You think 5% of the vote that is possibly MAGA, are those more likely Pritzker voters or Rauner voters, if McCann doesn’t get them?

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:06 pm

  21. Don’t really see the purpose of running this in the Chicago market; there aren’t that many GOP, let alone hard right conservatives, there. Doesn’t make political sense if you are trying to win (we know McCann won’t), or even if you are trying to build name recognition for a future statewide run.

About the only result I can see is the reverse effect: getting Democrats and minorities energized to show up and vote against both Rauner and McCann.

Sigh … how low can these campaigns sink in two more weeks?

Comment by RNUG Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:11 pm

  22. Apparently Sam can’t spell “conservative” without three Ks.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:12 pm

  23. “DGA does an ad”

So the DGA would spend some of the Local 150’s money against the Local 150 candidate ?

Comment by Texas Red Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:12 pm

  24. Strong ad for niche that he is reaching. If he gets 5% expect Conservative candidates in many red districts. 2020 could see the Republican Party in Illinois reduced even further.

Republicans need to move to the center. The current legislators are unable to do so. Bye Bye

Comment by Last Bull Moose Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:13 pm

  25. ===So the DGA would spend some of the Local 150’s money against the Local 150 candidate ?===

Why not? It’s that kind of a year.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:13 pm

  26. ===So the DGA would spend some of the Local 150’s money against the Local 150 candidate ?===

The goal is still the same…

How would you describe the Ives ad that the DGA did?

How do you think an Ives type ad “against” McCann would effect Rauner?

McCann isn’t in it to win it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:15 pm

  27. ===there aren’t that many GOP, let alone hard right conservatives, there===

There are tons in that region. Just not the majority. But big numbers.

Also, this spot could fire up the area’s moderates and liberals. Considering the real end game here, that wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:15 pm

  28. …In other words, you can’t think about the McCann candidacy as “normal.” He’s a stalking horse.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:17 pm

  29. Running the ad in Chicago is smart. Judging by the first few comments this ad will generate controversy and give McCann some free press. That’s probably what he wants to do.

  30. Running the ad in Chicago is smart. Judging by the first few comments this ad will generate controversy and give McCann some free press. That’s probably what he wants to do.

He wants to prevent Rauner from being governor.

Comment by OneMan Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:20 pm

  31. Well. I won’t be watching broadcast television for the next few weeks. Not if I might see that again.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:21 pm

  32. Unions are way too powerful in Illinois.

.They decide who gets into political positions. When they make that call, . then all our politicians, who are supposed to represent all Illinois residents, reward the unions to the detriment of everyone else who pays the bills in Illinois.

Business should have the right to decide whether or not they want to be unionized.

This kind of false flag shenanigans in exhibit A in everything that is wrong with Illinois politics.

Comment by Lucky Pierre Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:23 pm

  33. There’s a reason why ads like this use the term “illegals.” It’s intended to de-humanize people who aren’t like “us.” I am repulsed every time I see it used–and certainly in this fear-mongering ad. I appreciated McCann when he stuck up for state employees. Now I am ashamed of him.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:27 pm

  35. ==He wants to prevent Rauner from being governor.==

One good way to do that is to make sure everyone knows there’s a conservative alternative to Rauner.

Remember guys, the Chicago media market includes the suburbs. Which includes, among other things…Wheaton.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:30 pm

  36. Much better that the corporations and oligarchs make those decisions, eh, LP?

  38. ==They decide who gets into political positions.==

They sure didn’t pick the current Governor.

==Business should have the right to decide whether or not they want to be unionized.==

*Workers* should have the right to decide whether or not they want to be unionized.

==This kind of false flag shenanigans in exhibit A in everything that is wrong with Illinois politics.==

Rauner lost 48% of Republicans in the primary because they felt he wasn’t conservative enough. No reason why those voters can’t have a candidate in the General Election.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:33 pm

  39. This ad will attract conservative Trumpists who were going to hold their noses and vote for Rauner. Conservative Trumpists love this racist stuff.

Comment by Nick Name Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:34 pm

  40. ===Business should have the right to decide whether or not they want to be unionized.===

    Trades, huh.

Well, deciding people make too much money and wanting to hinder collective bargaining… It makes sense… labor knows… Rauner is bad for labor.

    *Enter McCann*

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:36 pm

  41. ===This kind of false flag shenanigans===

Yeah. And “Jeanne Ives is a Madigan shill” was just pure truth.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:36 pm

  42. “Unions are way too powerful in Illinois.”

Says the supporter of the politician who singlehandedly spent millions, bought a political party and tried to control it—the ultimate corrupt insider. Where were the tears when Rauner spent huge bucks to take out McCann in his primary because of one or two pro-union votes?

Comment by Grandson of Man Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:38 pm

  43. == Running the ad in Chicago is smart. Judging by the first few comments this ad will generate controversy and give McCann some free press. That’s probably what he wants to do. ==

And, if the ad angers Dems and boosts Chicago area Dem turnout, well, isn’t that a win-win for 150?

    Comment by Hamlet's Ghost Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:38 pm

  44. “Lucky Pierre”

Sounds like you’re telling organized labor…

“You have too much power, businesses should decide whatever they feel they want to give you, not what you can negotiate… and labor is foolish not to support someone trying to tear them down”

    Yikes man…

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:39 pm

Comment by Ike Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 4:49 pm

  47. Conservative voters will not find a home at the top of the ballot. Rauner is a no go due to HB-40, McCann is a union plant. Best option is to skip the top of the ballot.

Comment by Texas Red Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 5:02 pm

  48. Most R’s are on to Sammy. I wonder if this will help or harm his chances of landing a job in the JB administration. Likely he is being told what to do from the dems but ……….

  49. ==Best option is to skip the top of the ballot.==

Conservatives, ya’ll should just go one step further and stay home.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 5:16 pm

  50. LP,

I feel so badly for you. Victim of the big bad union. But seriously, Sam McCann is a stalking horse but it’s a marriage of convenience. Rauner tried to destroy McCann. McCann is getting his revenge with Local 150 money. That’s it. And Local 150 also supports GOP candidates, lest you think it was a coincidence that Brady and Durkin spoke at their event last week. So spare us your OTT outrage.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 5:32 pm

  51. ==Business should have the right to decide whether or not they want to be unionized.==

You consistently rail against unions and their power and then in the next breath say that it is businesses who should decide everything and who should have all the power. Hypocrite much?

==to the detriment of everyone else who pays the bills in Illinois==

My wife is in a union. Let me know what bills in Illinois that she’s not responsible for so I can adjust our budget accordingly.

Comment by Demoralized Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 5:58 pm

  52. McCann will probably get a lot of nice, fat, juicy monetary rewards and contracts from Madigan and his friends after the election as a way of saying thanks for however little assist he contributed.

Comment by Visitor Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 6:28 pm

  53. Of the many offensive things in that ad, the one that I think might merit criminal trial is the announcer’s extremely annoying As. Seaaam Mcceaaaannn.

  55. It’s obvious that McCann is only in this to help JB win the election. I think that is the inevitable irregardless of this commercial. This last-minute commercial buy will probably have a very minimal impact on the election.

  58. How’s it feel to have been runnin’ to the right the last few weeks, Boss Rauner?

Like Alfalfa used to say: “Cannons to the left of me…. cannons to the right of me…”

–Doesn’t matter if it’s Chicago.. There are Trump supporters in Chicago just like downstate.–

In fact, in 2016, the greatest number of Illinois Trump voters were in Cook County and the Chicago-metro TV market.

That’s something the 98 County Romantics cannot get through their extra-thick pumpkins. Corn stalks have ears, but they can’t vote.

Of course if he were smart he WOULD have a Spanish version substituting “gringo” for “illegal” but I sort of doubt it.

  60. Unions can only survive if the private sector feels there is value in buying union. I feel there are. If consumers do not purchase union produced goods snd trades. It will be the end of unions.

  61. –McCann the false flag candidate.–

“False flag,”, nice Pavlovian slobbering point, Alex, like Sandy Hook.

You have issues with McCann’s spot, Red?

    Please explain.
