* This is what happens when you don’t adequately train your petition circulators or you hire stupid people. Illinois Review…
Last Saturday, Liberty News’ Eric Odom encountered an individual collecting signatures for Democrat Alderman Bob Fioretti, who is running for Mayor of Chicago against Rahm Emanuel.
While Odom made it clear to the Fioretti backer that his residence is Virginia and not Chicago, the man was determined to get Odom’s signature — even though it would be illegal.
* If you watch the video, the circulator is just clueless. The guy says he’s not registered to vote in the city. That means he can’t sign the petition. The signature would be tossed out by an opposing campaign. But the doofus circulator persists anyway…
Oy.
By the way, Michael Kolenc, formerly of the failed petition drive to get the remap reform amendment on the ballot, e-mailed me to say he’s not managing Fioretti’s campaign. That’s true. He’s a Fioretti political adviser.

That’s why campaigns collect at least twice as many signatures as needed.

Is this supposed to be gotcha journalism? God I couldn’t care less about this

It really doesn’t need to be so hard. http://youtu.be/lA_Xv42u03o

As someone involved in the remap effort, I can say that Michael Kolenc was an unmitigated disaster. He liked to tell people what they wanted to hear and not what was actually occurring. It caught up to him and he jumped from the ship just before it sank.

That’s not exactly gotcha journalism, sir.. That’s just an idiot at work. The guy tells him that he’s not from Chicago, basically giving the circulator an out. He just didn’t take it. The guy couldn’t get out of his own way.

I suspect the guy gets paid by signatures collected, and that was his only goal.

I don’t think it is against the law to collect invalid signatures. The petition requirements only ask that you verify you saw the person sign it.

Can’t they wait a week? A lot of very experienced petition passers are tied up with other things for the next 7 days.

Oh, I thought this was capitol fax. Not a tiny conservative blog.

Personally, I’m shocked that Bob Fioretti, or somebody working for him, would do something dishonest or improper.
And now, I must head down to Rick’s to check out rumors involving gambling.

If that guy was getting paid to collect signatures, I sure hope he got at least part off the pay upfront. Bob’s had some difficulties along those lines in the past.

hilarious title to the post, especially if you know one of Fioretti’s old law partners, a train guy!

Perhaps the signature collector gets paid for each.

Why would you hire the con man, Kolenc? He cashed some big checks on that remap fiasco.
