Rockford police officers are busy enough without adding baby-sitting to their duties, but that’s what will happen because one more valuable program to help troubled youths is disappearing thanks to the state of Illinois budget impasse.
Youth Services Network has been providing vital support for young people, but it is running out of money. The agency had to drop its Redeploy Illinois program in October because the state wasn’t paying. Its youth shelter services have been limited by the state’s budget woes. Last week, the agency suspended its Comprehensive Community Based Youth Services. On Friday, the 24-hour crisis line will be shut off.
It’s become almost a daily occurrence: an agency that does business with the state of Illinois is forced to cut service for people who most need help.
Why should you care? That teenager who could have received help from Youth Services Network might wind up stealing from you — or worse. A police officer might be tied up dealing with a kid across town and won’t be able to respond to your problem as quickly. There will be an effect on the entire community.

@RonSandack: I’m frustrated 2, but taking steps towards reforming IL more important than short term budget stalemate. - Ron Sandack, 9/28/15

A couple of Friday’s ago I went to have lunch at at local pub in north central Illinois. Normally, it is pretty quiet, but that day business was booming. A large party of women were there and as I listen to them it became apparent that they were social service workers who had lost their jobs because of the lack of a budget. I didn’t find out which agency, but as a group they were both angry and sad.

I believe Rauner & Co calls that Winning @ Squeeze the Beast.

@Anon221 -
He does connect the dots. He just doesn’t care. His “Turnaround agenda” matters more to him than people’s lives, or community safety, or education, or anything else.

JoanP- I know. It was a post of despondency.

I keep saying, according to Illinois CEO Rauner its cheaper to house the kids in prison at $18-30/k a year, per person.

More profitable, too.

>Radogno also said that, while many social service agencies are struggling without state funding, and “seeing the bigger agencies have problems is very scary,” there “needed to be a shakeout.”
>“Most legislators I talk to agree with that,” Radogno said. “I mean I actually met with an agency that had 36 clients. … Some of these very small, very weak agencies, where their clients were being taken over by larger agencies. … I think not all of that was a horrible thing.”
Those pathetic, weak agencies in the small towns of central and southern IL should just die. Their people and towns will be better serve by big, multi-state corporations. /snark, and something I truly can’t believe I haven’t heard any Republicans oppose yet.

Rauner does not care. None of the kids that will be affected are Winnetka residents.

When Rauner received the news he said I don’t care! He then began singing another one bites the dust!

Plus at the Wine and Cheese parties in Winnetkastan you can laugh at “those people” and how unfortunate they are.
Remember she’s a Democrat too!

As I explained to one of the posters whose handle starts with ‘anon’ a couple days ago… I’m not a Democrat, nor would I be very good at the job. However, I am sure there are Democrats that would be.

Rauner himself is assigning a value to peoples’ lives. Some, in his value system, don’t rank at all and aren’t worth anything.

“Ryan is trying to change his party, while at the same time trying to change another stagnant institution: Congress. This speech comes on the same day the House leaves town for two weeks with Republicans having failed to agree on a budget – what many in the party call their most basic responsibility in govern.”
Politico article, explaining something Gov. Rauner doesn’t understand.
