Republicans say Democrats are “crying wolf” over “puppet” label

Posted in:

* From the ILGOP…

Hi Rich,

I wanted to follow up on yesterday’s post about the governor’s comments concerning Susana Mendoza. The Democrats feigned outrage on this issue is absolutely stunning. It’s ridiculous that the Democrats are crying wolf over words that they use on a regular basis. Where was the outrage when:

I could go on and on, but you get my point. Let’s assume for a second that the Democrats will apply their standard for acceptable political rhetoric to themselves.

Does Kelly Cassidy think SEIU’s comments toward Winger, Bourne, Jimenez, and Bryant were sexist? Does Christian Mitchell think Susana Mendoza is sexist since she called Munger “a lapdog”? Does Carol Ammons think Madigan’s mailers against Bourne and other female GOP lawmakers were sexist?

Hypocrisy is a word that comes to mind. If the Democrats think this sort of rhetoric is unacceptable, maybe they should practice what they preach.

Thanks,

Aaron

Did I miss the portion of Mr. DeGroot’s reply where he addressed the monochromatic nature of Mr. Rauner’s cabinet or senior staff at GTCR?

  2. A fair response. All the crap people complain about, both sides engage in.

But when the dems do it over sex or race, it seems to stick a whole lot better.

    Let’s break this down…

“…the governor’s comments concerning Susana Mendoza.”

Ok, this is about the governor’s own words, namely the ya of puppet.

“It’s ridiculous that the Democrats are crying wolf over words that they use on a regular basis. Where was the outrage when”

The only way this can make any sense is if there is an admitting Rauner is being sexist himself, like others, making everyone a sexist, or no one is a sexist and is acceptable for all.

    That’s it.

Rauner is a sexist too… no one is a sexist, but everyone is using “at a minimum”… bad form.

    That’s the argument Aaron wants?

  11. I agree that the outrage on Rauner’s labeling of Mendoza as a puppet is a bit overblown and both sides do engage in similar rhetoric and then often feign outrage.

More importantly the manufactured outrage detracts from very legitimate issues and questions such as the one that Mendoza posed yesterday in her follow-up:

=Why did you spend $2.8 billion in unauthorized spending and how much will your Rauner Tax cost the people of Illinois in order to pay for your deficit spending?=

Personally I’d like to hear a response to Mendoza’s question rather than a silly debate over whether or not she’s a puppet.

  17. Aaron,

    Congratulations!

You’ve given a tremendous example of “Whataboutism.”

Since you can’t defend the actual charges levied against your party’s leader, we can only assume you concur.

Thank for playing and good luck next time.

  19. =I shoulda questioned Bakke on that “borrowing”… it was an interesting moment.=

I found this moment just a slightly more interesting,

    - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 30, 15 @ 10:17 am:

Now, state Rep. Bourne, “Ever wonder why a district is a certain color on a map? Why blue? Why not green? Yellow? Maybe the district takes on the personality of the color they are on the map? Like, green, is your district ‘chill’, or red is like ‘hot’ about things and stuff… I look at the colors in wonderment.”

maybe this was humorous to you and others on the blog but reading this still leaves me feeling dissapointed.

I know you wont apologize to the rep or admit any wrong doing, but I hope we can all take a moment of reflection and improve our rhetoric especially in the current climate.

  20. ===maybe this was humorous to you and others on the blog but reading this still leaves me feeling dissapointed.===

Funny thing about comedy and context and mocking… what makes comedy or a mocking work is the context of the humor.

Same with a caption contest, same when mocking silly things others have said.

    You keep being disappointed.

===I know you wont apologize to the rep or admit any wrong doing, but I hope we can all take a moment of reflection===

    Your righteous indignation is noted…

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:25 pm

  21. There is a time and place for EVERY joke. No one is allowed to be offended as long as the jokester declares “I am joking.” It is called context.

Comment by James Hoffa Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:39 pm

  22. Didn’t Munger pick “wingman” for her seat label in the GovJunk clown car?

Comment by Annonin' Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:43 pm

  23. The unfortunate thing about all of this is that it’s a complete distraction from what was a very legitimate policy question about the state’s budget. In many ways arguing over the puppet characterization makes things a lot easier for Rauner. Through all of this we still don’t have an answer to the original question.

Comment by Pundent Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:44 pm

  24. Point well made.

The outrage should have been directed at Rauner’s inability to provide a reasonable response as to why he spent $2.8 billion in unauthorized spending. We ALL are well aware of his defensive crutch….”MADIGAN”.

Comment by Under Influenced... Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:48 pm

  25. So ummm…….. Aaron, do you have any intention on addressing what the governor said? Seems like you and the rest of the Raunerites can’t so you talk about something else.

I’ll play the Raunerite game, since the goodly governor brought up Mendoza…..

What about Leslie Munger? Nice person. Can’t win an election. Always seems to have a government job. What gives?

    #Whataboutism
    #Raunerite #silence

Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 12:58 pm

  26. I don’t think this qualifies as the fallacy #whataboutism because DeGroot is refuting and disproving their argument.

Comment by cdog Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 1:17 pm

  27. cdog - DeGroot is more than happy to spend time refuting and disproving these arguments particularly if it proves to be a nice distraction of the underlying issue. The democrats are just as much to blame for that by being baited into a silly debate over the use of the term “puppet”.

As JS Mill suggests I’d much rather that DeGroot speak to the real issues at hand.

Comment by Pundent Thursday, Nov 30, 17 @ 1:36 pm

    Not really.

  31. Way to call it out. Now you should call out all the other pot calling the kettle-Calling for more transparency while issuing a veto on transparency. Issuing a veto on unbalanced budgets passed while having unbalanced budgets proposed. Lying to the Cardinal while saying you stand with him. The list can go on and on and on.

Btw is the Governor going to the Irish American Fellowship forum tonight for GOP candidates? Jeanne will be there would love to see how the Governor handles a strong women running against him since he’s done a great job dealing with a strong women in Mendoza.
